Mathematical Analysis: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)

Surprisingly accessible
To my surprise, I understood almost every page. As a physicist, I became slightly irritated about the nit-picking explanations of procedures I used without thinking for years. But of course this is a book for mathematicians, and I realised I had to be sympathetic to this approach. I had a Eureka moment when I read the derivation of Euler's identity (the most exciting equation in the world), a process I must have learnt years ago but had forgotten. But sadly I got rather lost in the final chapter on complex integration and hyperreal numbers, and frankly failed to see its point.Particular plus aspects for me were the constant references to the historical development of the subject, and the inclusion of a historical time-line at the end. These gave much of the subject matter a context and a sense of reality. All in all, a first class book, thoroughly readable and invaluable as a reference.
