works well does what it says it does.
In-line Microphone Preamp for Dynamic Mic, [Brass metal design for better shielding] Ultra-Clean Gain Mic Booster Activator Preamp lifier for Podcast, Broadcast, Studio SingingThis is a preamp for dynamic microphones. Right off the batt if you are using any Sure dynamic microphone, just buy it. If not this one then please, one like it. This is a great product and works as it should. It works on all dynamic mics as well as ribbons, it's just Sure really needs a lot of preamp to get what you need out of them. This boosts signal using 48v phantom power and gives you the headroom you need to get the most of out of your mics. DO Not Use With Condesors. PSA. This unit sounds clear and gives your mic the bump it needs to make it come alive. It's like giving your dynamic the sensitivity of a condensor. Not quite but you get the idea. The unit is solidly built and is pretty much plug and play, you will need phantom power to use it. I am grateful to have it and I recomend you take a look.

Works great in my home studio
There's not a month goes by that I don't get a new preamp for testing since I work both in a band as well in a home studio environment.I tend to take my time, because what I've learned is that with so many preamps on the market, some are going to work better in some applications than others. In this case, I found that the Borenbuir preamp works so much better in my podcast setup than it did with my band setup. Now granted, I do play heavy metal, so with all the extra noise, it can be hard to tell just how well it's working. Where it really shined was in my podcast setup where I had more control over the board settings. What I did learn right off, is that you will definitely want to turn your gain back just a bit. I had the gain up a bit too much when I plugged the preamp in and I did in fact notice a slight distortion in the signal. So of course I cut the gain back from 10 to 9 o'clock, adjusted the mids and bingo, I had a crystal clear signal. And this was coming from a low-end CAD microphone. I tried it on a Sennheiser and got even a better result. The best results were when I broke out the ole Shure 58 and WOW, what a difference. So like I said, I think how you plan on using this preamp will definitely have an effect on what your results will be. I also think that you are playing light rock or your basic classic rock that it will also give you very positive results. I haven't done it as of yet, but my next venture will be to use it in an acoustic setting where I'll be running both guitar and vocal through a smaller stage amp. And please keep in mind that your board or amp will need phantom power on(48v) for this preamp to work properly. I know that with dynamic mics that's usually not the case, so just a heads up. Regardless of, I am very pleased with the results. Thank you.

Effective for the price
Its important to remember that an in-line mic pre-amp is really only useful for passive ribbon and dynamic microphones and only run on 48v phantom power. But if you need to clean up a mic signal for something like pod casting or public speaking, this preamp works fine. For the price it cannot be beat, but don't think this is a professional grade device. It is purely for enthusiasts. That's not an insult... it is well built and will last for a long time if care for and not over taxed. Recommended.

Broke within 10 minutes of use. Avoid due to quality issues
I had high hopes for this product. It seemed to work decently, although at higher gains it produced a repeated thumping sound in my mic. It did do what it advertises itself to do.However, the build quality appears to be extremely questionable since it broke within 10 minutes of use. I was testing the product by adding it into my system, and then taking it out again to hear the difference from different locations in the line, (i.e. Mic > preamp > xlr cable > interface versus mic > xlr cable > preamp > interface). I have only ever plugged this in twice, and unplugged it twice, and on the second unplugging the end of this thing came away with the XLR cable. As you can see in the picture, the connection had successfully began to separate, meaning I was disconnecting the cable correctly, however the product failed when a tiny amount of resistance was met.I luckily did not tear it away, so I hope the interior connecions are not broken, but I can not know for certain. I basically can never plug it in again to test otherwise I will never be able to unplug it because the insides will tear away with the cable. This is incredibly bad design if it can not handle the small amount of friction that cables can create upon plugging and unplugging. There is a screw on the side that I think is supposed to hold it in place and that essentially failed. I think it was screwed too far in during assembly since it went into the body of the product instead of sitting in a position that prevented pull.Honestly, I've never had a piece of hardware like this fail so quickly upon use. Especially at this price point. Considering the instructions clearly describes how each product is tested for quality assurance before sale, I am very disappointed with how this turned out.
