This is a rather basic machine and I love the retro look and size of it. I don't need a toaster with unnecessary bells and whistles. I have a small kitchen with limited counter space where it fits well. When my old toaster bit the dust I found and ordered this retro look Mueller toaster. Love it. The lifters no long lifted the bread on my old toaster so I was unplugging the machine and using a fork to dig the toast out or use silicone tongs to remove the toasted bread. Not recommended and it gives you hot fingers. I don't eat bagels often but I do make large loaves of homemade bread and I haven't experienced the problem of it not fitting into the toaster slots and the bread pops up, easy to retrieve. I detected no odor with it's first use nor did it burn my bread. I must prefer my toast darker than the majority of people because I have it set almost to 5 with no smoke or burning. It's easy to clean, the bread trays remove easily. Now - I haven't tried to toast bagels so I can't speak to that, but this toaster has worked well for me with my use - so far. Keep in mind, the settings change with the amount of moisture in the bread and so browning results will vary with the type of bread you're toasting. It only takes a bit of experimenting to figure out the setting you prefer for the type of bread you're using. But this Mueller has been working well for me and I have no complaints.

I’ve used this tester for a while and line absolutely love the color and design. The controls make it easy to adjust the level of toasting. I gave it three stars for two reasons: then slices of toast or pastries, such as pop tarts fall through to the bottom and it makes it difficult to get them back out again. Secondly, the tray that you pull up the bottom to let out pieces of bread and crumbs has a great above it so that you have to shake the toaster to get all of it out. These are two designed flaws, in my opinion, that have me thinking I might find a newer toaster in a month or year or two depending on my budget. Otherwise, it does look lovely it’s just these two functionalities that make me reconsider my choice.
