This spring compressor works very well. I have never used a spring compressor so I was a bit nervous to use because of the energy stored in the spring when compressed. This tool is heavy, which is good because it is built to handle the compression necessary for vehicle springs. I have used it 3 times now and it worked effortlessly. By the 3rd time, it was compressed and replaced in 15 minutes. The cross brace is a nice feature as it keeps both sides secured together.The lower clips which secure with the threaded collar also is and feels very secure. Used on my '16 Ford Fusion.Next up is the '92 Chevy G20 van.NOTE: follow the instructions & grease up the threads. VERY IMPORTANT to do this.I recommend this tool and good value for $$.

Stop what I was doing just to leave this review... I stopped doing strut springs for about 10 years because of the danger involved... Had a couple tools explode in my hands taking chunks out of the asphalt beneath me.. the second time this happened I said I'm done that's it. Then as I mentioned about a decade later I came across this tool... Total game changer. Because of his design and safety features, I am totally comfortable doing struts again. I've seen some negative reviews about them, but I can tell you they're unfounded.. my units (I purchased two kits so that if I come across a rough spring I can have four compressors on the spring at one time- ultra ultra safe) arrived with only a light oiling. I knew immediately this was not the condition in which this tool ought to be used. I disassembled and packed the lead screw threads full of high pressure Grease.. pulled the thrust bearing and packed it full of grease.. and hit the threads of the locking jaws with grease also. These tools are so darn efficient at compressing springs once lubricated in this way, I could literally use a standard handle 3/8 ratchet and compress a spring using just my index and middle finger. On a side note, I also found a an absolutely AWESOME off-label use for it a while back.. I'm not going to mention it here for liability reasons. I just can't say enough good things about this tool.
