Worth every penny
I have used the driver on garden fencing and it is brilliant good control and power. Drilling precise holes on kitchen units and fixing them together was a dream and the light shining on the work place was a big help. Overall the best tool I have purchased for years.

Great mid range drill driver
Opted for this as I don't need exceptional torque, but do need reliability. This drill driver is lighter and more compact than the equivalent combi and I never use the hammer function on combi drills. All metal gearing and alloy gear housing push it up the range in terms of construction and I'm finding it to be an ideal drill for my needs.Time will tell how it stands up to wear and tear, but early signs are positive.

Makita design rubbish but this Makita drill is fabulous
After a series of disappointments with new Makita combi-drills, each of which was returned because of a design flaw causing hammer action even when hammer not selected. Drilling metal with small drill bits (2mm to 8mm) was not good with hammer action. My most recent, dhp485, bought 10 days ago was bad. This drill had hammer action even when drilling wood. IMO Makita don't know have to design combi-drill BUT my 1week old DDF 484 (no hammer feature) is a joy to use! Not had such a good drill since my 12v nicad Makitas, just much stronger, and longer battery life. This drill is wonderful!
