Extremely, extremely! Bright laser! Batteries last long and can trace individual strands with ease (minimal microbend)

Definitely bright, but not noticeable different from a 30mW light I acquired previously
This is an extremely bright visible fault detector. It's far better than the ones my employer (over)spends on. I chose to buy my own (10mW) years ago to upgrade from those. Since then, I have also acquired a 30mW and 50mW ruby light. This 50mW light isn't noticeably brighter than my 30mW light. I used a power meter to measure the difference and I did verify it is brighter, but it isn't noticeable to me. Perhaps it's the pattern or the spectral width. Since my power meter isn't rated to the wavelength of this light, I'm not posting its results beyond the fact it did have a higher reading.I did test through a blue bend-insensitive SM fiber and a break was barely visible externally. It would be difficult to notice it. To me, recognizing a break of a blue SM fiber is the gold standard since my company uses them so frequently. I have yet to find any ruby light that can meet that standard, but this one comes as close as I've seen. The 30mW light was on-par. If you have the older yellow SM fibers, you're styling because breaks are very visible with even a 10mW light. If you use a ruby light to identify far-end connectors of a fiber bundle you're running, this is extremely helpful. It lights up the connector cap of any of the jumpers I've encountered so far. If it's not capped, it will light up the ceiling or floor and you can easily narrow down which fiber by splitting the bundle multiple times until you get down to the right one.The one feature it doesn't have that I wish it had (I found helpful in a previous ruby light) is a sleeve/cover over the power button. If it had the sleeve, I could set it, cover it, and be sure it doesn't accidentally turn on or off.

Fault location is a cinch
These things are bright! You can fault locate an issue with fiber cable even in direct sunlight with no problem. This has made my job so much easier. It was worth the $30 to not have to cover a cable to see my company provided vfl flashing under a black tarp. Awesome!!!!

easy
I didn't measure the output, but they are plenty strong enough. the cheap red cap broke off one pretty quickly, but it doesn't matter.

Dead out of the box
Just recieved mine. Put new batteries in it using the instructions provided and it will not power on. Returning it for a refund. I guess that is why these are so cheap.

Quit working after 6 months
Pros...very bright, easy to locate.Cons...the FC adapter that came with it won't screw on, easily falls off.the light source stopped working after 6 months, still on first set of batteries. It is possible my guys dropped it a few times so this may be why it quit working???
