Amazon's Trust Betrayed: The Unacceptable Failure of AmazonBasics Microphones
I am utterly disappointed and frankly shocked at the subpar quality of the AmazonBasics microphone I purchased. It's a stark reminder that brand trust can sometimes lead to unexpected letdowns. I made the mistake of not testing the product within the replacement window, naively placing my faith in the Amazon name. But today, when I finally needed it, the microphone failed to work at all. This isn't just about a faulty product; it's about the erosion of trust in a brand that I once held in high regard. Amazon, known for revolutionizing online shopping, seems to have taken a misguided turn. By launching its own brand to compete with successful products on its platform, one would expect at least a baseline of quality. However, this experience has shown that their pursuit of market dominance might be overshadowing the fundamental principle of customer satisfaction. It's a wake-up call for consumers like me who believed that AmazonBasics equated to reliable quality. I hope Amazon takes note of this and realizes that compromising on quality for the sake of expansion is a disservice to its loyal customers. We deserve better.

Finally, Amazon Basic's Mic for beginners
I recently got my hands on this mic and I'm still pretty new to the whole audio thing. It comes with this long 20 ft cable, which is kinda cool for moving around, but honestly, the wire quality is just okay. I think it's meant for beginners like me who are just starting to get into the audio scene. Inside the package, there's this fancy leather pouch, a battery thing (I guess it's for cameras, not entirely sure), and this clip that helps you put the mic in the right spot. They even gave me a wind muff for the mic and this 6.5mm connector, which I think is for cameras. There's a warranty for a year, and what got me was that it's from "Amazon Basics" – I figured I could trust that more than those other brands like Maono or Boya. Overall, it seemed like a good choice, especially since it works with smartphones and cameras, which is perfect for someone like me who's just starting out.

Useless, Waste of money
You will need to put the Mike in your mouth to record something. Microphone doesn't record anything even from an inch away. Don't buy.

Great mic, but may take some tweaking
Before I begin on the mic, a bit of my background that affected how I approached this mic: I spent a few years working in radio, and also have worked in professional sound production, so I am more used to analog XLR mics, as opposed to USB P&P mics. However, I'm also a bit tech savvy, having spent time as a technology reporter. Now, what you came here for. :)I have found the sound quality to be excellent for the money, and I look forward to using this mic for voiceover work. Just like any mic, I had to experiment a little to find just the right way to speak into it. (As an example, the mics we used at the radio station worked best off to the side of my mouth, perpendicular to the sound coming from my mouth. Talking across the end of the mic almost with my lips on it, essentially. This does NOT work well with this mic.) I also had to experiment with the different levels for the mic itself, and for the headphones, to find the right balance. Also, you will want to try all four mic patterns, to find the one that gives you the sound you want.Bear in mind this is a very sensitive mic, and will pick up lots of rather quiet sounds in the room where you record. I used one of the limitations mentioned in other reviews to my advantage. Many people said the audio level is very low. (I'm told this is a limiting factor in the computer registry on systems like my Windows 10 machine, and not a limitation of the mic. Windows likes to throttle USB P&P mics, for some reason. There are apparently utilities that will remove this.) I record in a room with audible computer fans- but the low output level tends to eliminate those. I then use a compressor effect in my software to bring the level up- which works well to give me my voice at a good level, without the fan noise. It's clever, but I discovered it worked so well, quite by accident. When I first plugged in the mic, I got no sound at all. I went into the sound settings on Windows, and opened the properties setting for the mic, and saw nothing wrong. I clicked on 'Additional device properties' and went to the 'Listen' tab. There, I saw 'Listen to this device' was not checked. Be sure it IS checked. When I got the mic, I Initially did not like that it only works if you have a headset plugged into it (as opposed to using your regular computer headset), but quickly realized the reason for this. If you monitor your audio at the computer level, you will get latency that can be annoying at best- and at worst, can throw you off when trying to speak. (I'll spare you the explanation of how this is linked to reporters sometimes pulling their earpieces out, when doing live reports during newscasts.) With the headset plugged directly into the mic, you can monitor yourself in real time. I'd like to hear my voice with any effects already applied- but I can still record and then apply and tweak effects later. (This means during recording, I only monitor for how I am speaking- and will hear it in its final form later.) This feature of the mic does mean you will have a quite difficult time of singing or speaking along with other recorded material, such as a backing track. If you need to do that, a USB P&P mic may not be part of the best setup for you. You may want to opt for an analog mic plugged into the regular audio jacks on your computer. In the end, it's really a very good mic- though you *very* likely will need some time to experiment with levels, how you interact with the mic, etc. Put in a little time and effort, and you will get quite good results!

A Blue Yeti clone that offers interesting alternative, depending the price you manage to get it for
The media could not be loaded. Summary:I tested this microphone for several weeks before making this review, using my PC computer that runs Windows 10 operating system (although you should be able to use it with MacOS as well). The main use I made with it is for voiceover in my videos. This is a plug & play microphone, that works once you plug the USB cable into your computer, and there’s no need to install any driver. The AmazonBasics microphone has a great resemblance to the Blue Yeti (which I also own) and was used as my benchmark microphone for comparison.Personally, I think the average user will be more than satisfied with the audio quality of the Amazon Basics microphone. You can watch my videos of this microphone (I uploaded one with this review), so you will know how it sounds. The microphone both the microphone and the mount are made from solid metal and it seems to be as durable as the Blue Yeti (which is a good thing). The microphone is supplied with a USB-to-MicroUSB cable. I managed to use a standard USB-to-MicroUSB cable with this microphone, which makes life much easier if (god forbid) the cable is damaged, or if you want to use a longer/shorter cable. The height can be extended up to 40mm. Though I don't know how many people will find it useful, I didn't encounter this feature on other microphones that I tested so far, including the similar Blue Yeti.Unlike the Blue Yeti, that has a manual gain switch (which makes it easier to determine if you are on max/min level), it is hard to tell what is the AmazonBasics microphone’s gain level. Although you can set the volume level by pressing the +/- buttons on the microphone, the volume level is shown only on the computer. If you ask me, the AmazonBasics is an interesting alternative to the Blue Yeti. Eventually, this is a Blue Yeti clone… because it looks like the Blue Yeti, sounds like the Blue Yeti and feels like the Blue Yeti. But then, you probably ask yourself why not just get the real thing and that's it, right!?Well, the main reason why you should consider this microphone is if the price differentiation compared to the Blue Yeti is significant. When the AmazonBasics microphone is discounted by Amazon this is an excellent bargain for a Blue Yeti clone. If the price is around +$70, then it makes this microphone less attractive. Please note I attached to this review screenshots + a video review I made about my experience with this microphone. The pros:• Price when it is discounted• Audio Quality• Build Quality• It can be used with any USB-to-MicroUSB cable• The height can be extended up to 40mmThe cons:• Price when not on sale• Hard to tell what is the microphone's gain level• This is a Blue Yeti clone****FAQ :****If you have any, please do ask and I will do my best to answer them.

A Heavy Hitter Without A Heavy Price Tag
I purchased this for podcasting. I just wanted something decent without paying a fortune. This microphone has truly blown my mind. It produces an incredible sound that requires little to no post-processing. There are a few things that I could nitpick, but I don’t think they’re actually worth fussing over.A quick anecdote: A veteran, award-winning broadcaster that I was working with complimented me on how great my audio quality was. He was quite surprised when I explained that I had been recording in an open-air environment (bedroom) with mostly hard surfaces, and using this microphone.

Grab one on sale and be very happy.
I am not a music person, but someone with hundreds, if not thousands, of hours recording spoken word for radio, audiobooks and podcasts. For the [sale] price, you cannot do any better. It's a great sounding mic. Compares well with the Blue Yeti, and that company just got bought by Logitech, so it may change.Be sure you are using the right pattern for your needs and be sure you are aiming the front of the mic at you, not the top! Extend your thumb and pinky to get just about the right space between your mouth and the mic. Too far back and the audio will sound weak and much close and you will record breaths and plosives. You do not need to adjust the volume on your computer, do it on the mic. Your headphones go in the mic as well.I would leave the USB cord plugged it the mic, as that is the one thing that will wear out first. Many people understandably do not know how to use mics, so beware of poor advice.

Very good mic
This mic was only missing a high pass filter knob because it sounds kinda muffled if this wasn't the case this mic would be the thing I was looking for unfortunately I gave it to my cousin instead because it didn't fulfil the purpose to which I bought it for..
