I thought this for my 11 yo son, who loved it! The ways you can configure and use the pen or as a magnetic toy were very interesting to him and cool! However, he was playing with it in our kitchen on a tile surface and one of the segments dropped on the ground and sparks flew! The spark landed on his foot! He shows this to me as it seemed unbelievable and I witnessed it myself several times (we had to experiment to see if this phenomenon would reoccur). When dropped on a hard surface, like tile or concrete, the metal hitting those surfaces causes sparks. I instructed him to stop playing with it because now I consider unsafe and I don’t want him, anyone else or my home to get burnt. I caution anyone looking to buy this pen for their children because it can be dangerous. Kids drop things and this could easily cause harm to them or others. A very cool gift that turned out to be dangerous…a big disappointment!
