Healthcare Operations Management, Third Edition (Aupha/Hap Book)

textbook style overview of field
I just started a new job in health care management and so I bought this as a review. It is formatted like a textbook and that makes it an easy read because you can flip to the chapters that you need. This was pricey but worth it. There aren't really any other books out there that give an overview of management positions in health care. This book will continue to serve as a great resource for me and I highly recommend.

Just buy the New Edition
This works great, I am using it for a Healthcare Systems Engineering course but just wish I would have bought the newer edition. I work in a hospital and I notice some is outdated.

Fernando A. Ortiz, Ph.D., ABPP, Director, Counseling Center, Gonzaga University
This is a required textbook for a class I'm taking on "Healthcare Operations" at Gonzaga University's MBA program with an emphasis on healthcare management. The textbook is excellent. The chapters are relatively brief, very readable, and the authors make sure difficult concepts are understandable. For example, chapter 7 on "using data and statistical tools for operations management" introduces the reader to the use of statistical and probability reasoning to problem solving in healthcare management. The concepts are understandable to anyone with an average understanding of statistics, probability, and research. All the chapters are structured as follows: chapter outline, key terms and acronyms, introduction (overview), chapter content, chapter conclusion, discussion questions, and references. The chapter content contains many figures and tables that illustrate the concepts explained in the chapter. I found this feature very helpful. Similarly, the questions at the end of the chapters allow students to clarify, expand, and connect the main chapter concepts. The references include a mix of books, journal articles and publications readily accessible on the internet. One of the most helpful features is the online tools available for students to access and practice on concepts and ideas of a more applied nature in healthcare operations. I highly recommend this resource for students as an excellent introduction to healthcare management and operations.

High Marks
This textbook is a marked improvement over such texts in the field. I would highly recommend it for a classroom or for field practitioners. This book is quite comprehensive and contains many topical and current examples.
