Amazing for anxiety
I take prescription meds for anxiety as needed, but this is fantastic for those times when it's not a full panic attack but I know I shouldn't be constantly feeling like I've forgotten to do everything and it all should have been done a month ago.It does not work like xanax for me - instead it seems to force my brain to stop bouncing around and looking for things that may go wrong. It also doesn't put me to sleep at all - it kept me up because I wasn't stressing about sleeping right that second or worrying about lack of sleep for the next day.I will say, I felt like I started to forget words I should be able to recall easily for a week or so after drinking this a few times the week before, but that may have truly just been too much stress/anxiety.It is supposed to stay in your system for 4-6 hours (if I remember correctly), but for me it tends to let me calm enough that I stay calmer than normal even the next day.I like the taste - it's kind of like the smell of wet dirt (the good wet dirt though).I pour hot (almost boiling) water over 1 tablespoon (in a tea bag I purchased separately) and let it brew for 10 minutes. I then remove the tea bag (it gets bitter if you leave it) and enjoy.

Excellent product!
First of all the smell does not bother me. Keeping in a sealed glass jar. Using 1 teaspoon per cup of hot water coming out of a Keurig into a glass tea cup with laser cut caddy, steeping for 15 minutes. Smell is woodsy, a bit musty, like a walk in the forest maybe after a rain. It is, after all, chopped up roots of a plant. The taste is somewhat medicinal with a slight astringent mouth feel. Not yummy, but not unpleasant. We have been drinking a cup about 30 minutes before bedtime. After 30 minutes starting to feel sleepy, falling to sleep very quickly, and both of us only waking up once during the night instead of our usual three times. No morning after effects. Seems to help some arthritis aches and pains. Hubby has essential tremor, which valerian capsules help some, so are hoping this will start helping even more.

Potent, Pain-Relieving Herb♡
Fantastic! This organic valerian root is wonderful for relieving muscle pain, tension, anxiety and stress. It's an antispasmodic, mild analgesic, mild bitter and tranquilizer. It helps with tension headache, eye strain, tensed muscles, rheumatic aches, insomnia and IBS. It's safe and nonaddictive. The quality of this herb is very good. It stinks, which speaks to its potency. But just know that it's normal for it to smell like a wet sock.I recently used this valerian root in my Deep Rest & Relaxation herbal tea blend, and I'm always surprised by how well it helps me with my chronic pain and chronic headache. It's really wonderful for calming your nervous system. The only thing I don't like is that this bag is not resealable, so I have to rubberband it and store it in another mylar bag to keep it fresh. But otherwise I'm really pleased with this product!

Best I Valerian Root I have purchased thus far! I do not leave reviews often but they deserve one!
I am an avid tea drinker, I was taking doxylamine over the counter sleep aids for years until I decided to start herbal teas. I have now developed the perfect homemade blend of which one of the ingredients is valerian root. I have been drinking this tea for ~ 3 years now and I have no more need for sleep aids (well except for the tea); I have probably purchased ~ 5-6lb. total of valerian over the last 3 years from different shops and brands on etsy and amazon.... This past year i transitioned to growing most of my herbs as it gets expensive and I was shocked at how amazing homegrown valerian root smells when it is freshly dried. The smell was much nicer and the color was lighter. Kinda made me wonder how old and how clean was the valerian root that I have purchased online!! The bad thing is I didn't grow enough to get me through til next season. I received the Valerian Root today and I WAS SHOCKED AT HOW GOOD IT SMELLED AND THE COLOR LOOKED LIKE MY HOMEGROWN VALERIAN! Makes me think its the freshest I have purchased online so far and after growing it my self and realizing how timely t is to clean the roots well before drying, looking at the roots they sent, I can tell they did a hell of a better job than any of the other shops.... nothing beats homegrown and washed but this right here is probably the closest I am going to get! you have gained a loyal customer.

Good for sleep.
I wanted to use this a few times before writing a review. To me, the scent is more of a licorice. The taste is a little more mild than the scent. I don't normally drink tea with milk or sugar, so I cant comment on that. But, this stuff is aromatic. I transferred the contents to a qt zipper freezer bag and the aroma filled my cabinet. I double bagged it, and I could still detect the scent. It now sits double bagged on my fridge. The valerian root definitely helps me stay asleep. I normally wake up many times a night for various reasons. After drinking this tea, I tend to only wake up once, twice at the most. It does work. The scent and taste does take getting accustomed to, but it is worth it.

I am very pleased with the value as well
This is some powerful valerian root! It will knock you out if you have trouble sleeping. I am very pleased with the value as well. This pound will last me a long time, even with nightly use. A little bit in the tea diffuser goes a long way, in fact, you don't want to load up too heavy. Valerian root toxicity is possible in extreme dosages, though it is generally a safe herb. It's a great alternative to conventional insomnia treatments that can leave you groggy the next day, something I have not observed with valerian root. If you find the taste unpleasant, try tossing in a peppermint tea bag or adding peppermint leaves to your diffuser. Not only does it taste lovely, but peppermint is known to stimulate dreams.Warning for cat owners: I didn't realize that valerian root has the same effect on cats as catnip does (but amplified in my cats case) until my cat was racing across the floor and biting my hand. It is safe in small quantities but I recommend washing your hands after handling unless you like swipe scratches!
