Not the original Polar Pure but close enough
Lots of confusion on this product availability as it was taken off the market due to new DEA regulations. I did not know if this was counterfeit or legitimate, but I received a response from the son of the original Polar Pure founder which cleared it up. I've copied this email below:I love the original product but am rating this stuff a '4' because the bottles are dusty/sticky old stock (as other reviewers have commented).Dear MF,Thank you for your email, your kind words, and offer of support. We always appreciate hearing from long time customers like you.As far as “fighting the DEA”, it is not really a matter of fighting but rather to apply for DEA registration and, in our case, a CA permit to purchase and sell iodine. Following the rules and regulations would be more onerous, but no company operates without some sort of imposed conditions. We (Polar Equipment, Inc) are not able to sell Polar Pure (with iodine) at this time, as you have seen on our website, because we do not have the required DEA registration to purchase or sell iodine. In order to purchase or sell iodine (the only ingredient in Polar Pure), we and anyone else selling iodine or any iodine containing products must possess federal DEA registration and a State permit where required. We have been unable to purchase iodine since 2011.My father, Bob Wallace (creator of Polar Pure) did not want to apply for the registration or follow these rules and regulations and instead wanted to obtain an exemption to the registration requirement (at 92 yrs old, he is not easily dissuaded from his stance despite my attempts). We did try, unsuccessfully for more than two years to obtain an exemption as he wished. I realize that an exemption is not possible at this time, but he did not wanted to give up the idea. After nearly three years of pursuing an exemption, which predictably failed, Bob decided to sell empty Polar Pure bottles to a seller who has various items on Amazon and convinced him to apply for DEA registration in order to purchase and sell iodine. This was not my idea or preference, but Bob felt this was his only option aside from applying for DEA registration through our own company - which he has so far refused to do. This seller applied for DEA registration and obtained required documents to purchase iodine with which to fill the bottles and sell using Amazon for his storefront. This same seller offers iodine in 7.5gram quantities for sale on Amazon as well. All offerings of Polar Pure that you see on Amazon (or any other site) are from this seller. Our company, Polar Equipment, Inc. cannot sell Polar Pure bottles with iodine without DEA registration and, in our case, a CA permit, both of which I would like to pursue in the future in order to make it available for sale exclusively through our company again and bring the entire manufacturing production back to our company.Over the last few years, we have received requests from some of our long time customers and other customers asking to purchase empty Polar Pure bottles from us. These customers preferred not to purchase from the seller on Amazon and since we are currently unable to sell bottles with iodine, they asked to purchase a couple of empty bottles and fill with iodine themselves for their own personal use - they apparently found sources of iodine. Other customers have purchased Polar Pure from the seller on Amazon.I hope I have cleared up any confusion about our current status regarding Polar Pure sales. Let me know if you have any other questions. I will keep your email on file in the event that in the future we need a “testimonial”. We have had many customers offer the same as you have and appreciate the support. We keep these testimonials on file. Check in with us from time to time for any updates.Regards,Ted Wallace, Polar Equipment, Inc.

Great for preps
Used this while backpacking in Boy Scouts. Easy to use, long lasting. You can get rid of the iodine taste after enough time has passe to disinfect by adding some ascorbic acid(vitamin C.) Comforting to know that safe water is always available.

Water purification at it's cheapest (Part Per Unit wise!!!)
Purchased this for a backup water supply in case of emergency (SHTF or TEOTWAWKI). I didn't want to have to worry about expiration dates or figuring out math problems to apply correct dosage. Remember, this is for EMERGENCY use for me. I'm assuming my brain won't be 100% focused and therefore unable to calculate the bleach to water ratio, or similar such method. This unit comes with very easy to read and understand instructions ON THE BOTTLE. It also comes with a pamphlet with instructions not only on how to use the product but on how to clean water using other methods. It's worth keeping around as a quick reference guide for other methods. The bottle contains iodine crystals (which I hear you can buy separately) and has a built in thermometer that will tell you what dose to apply. There is also a device inside the bottle to avoid losing any of the iodine crystals so you don't have to have a super steady hand, as they've thought of that too! This little bottle of iodine crystals says it can purify up to 1000 quarts (all dependent on water temperature) of water. At 20 dollars for one bottle of iodine crystals that WONT EXPIRE EVER, this is super cheap insurance. I have one in my bug out box and will likely purchase at least two more for bags. A great product to have around and hope you never need to use it.I love that this doesn't expire. Tablets last 3-6 months. Bleach about the same, plus the volume of storing all that bleach for clean water. This truly is the best solution I have found to being able to provide myself and my family with clean drinking water in a bad situation.

Water Purification at its best
I used this product when our scout troop went to Northern Tier. It provides no weird after taste that the pills offer.

It is the best certified pure food grade Iodine you can get.
It is the best certified pure food grade Iodine you can get.It is the best certified pure food grade Iodine you can get.I use it, combined with pure Potassium Iodide to prepare Lugol’s Iodine that contains 6.25mg Iodine/Iodide for one drops. Taking two drops I can duplicate Iodoral for 1/10 of the price.Iodine is a valuable detoxification tool, particularly for the toxic halogens in our food and water. The traditional form of Lugol's Iodine that has been in use since 1880 is a natural, balanced form of 5 percent elemental iodine in a 10 percent solution of potassium iodide. The benefits of using Lugol's Iodine include increasing the metabolism, strengthening the immune system, and calming and relieving nervous tension. Used topically or orally, its antiseptic properties counteract a broad spectrum of germs (fungal, viral, and bacterial). This can be prepared at home dissolving 10 gram KI in 70ml-distilled water, dissolve 5 gram I2 iodine crystals in this solution, and adding water up to 100ml. One drop of this solution contains 6mgr iodine/iodide.For more information please consult:[...][...][...][...]You can prepare 50ml solution Dissolving 5gr KI + 2.5gr I2 in 50ml Distilled Water. Or you can prepare 25ml solution Dissolving 2.5gr KI +1.25 gr I2 in 25ml Distilled Water. I use a Triton T2-300 Digital Pocket Scale has a 300 gram capacity with a 0.1 gram resolution, and also weighs in 3 other units.
