Electrician Apprentice Study Guide: 3 Practice Exams and IBEW Aptitude Test Prep Book [Includes Detailed Answer Explanations]

Ordered this for a friend who is studying for his electrician's license. He said it's the only study guide that covers exactly what's expected of him.

This book, from Test Prep Books, is a good study guide for the IBEW Aptitude Test for Electrician Apprenticeship. It includes 3 Practice Exams and detailed answer explanations after the practice tests.Overall the book exhibits a good review of what to expect on the IBEW Aptitude Test. It gives good explanations on how to answer the test questions, including how to solve the Algebra, functions, linear equations, graphing and geometry questions. It also reviews reading comprehension and the different elements of writing style. This study guide gives pointers on test-taking strategies, highlighting different elements to look for when answering test questions.The book also includes 3 IBEW Study Schedules : a one week schedule, 2 week schedule, and 3 week schedules. The revision of the Table of Contents to coordinate with the different Study Schedules would improve this book. These are excellent study schedules, I just found them difficult to follow when I couldn't find the study topic in the Table of Contents. Adding the Study Topic to the Table of Contents and add the Page Numbers to the Schedule.The book gives good instructions on taking the test; however, the grammar in the book needs improvement. There are run on sentences. There is usage of "be verbs" when a shorter version of the sentence is more appropriate. There are occasionally two duplicate meaning sentences put together. The paragraph needs only one of the sentences, or a sentence that includes elements of both sentences to get the same meaning.In conclusion, the book is a great study guide on what to expect on the IBEW Test. The book would be improved with grammatical editing, and revision of the Table of Contents and Study Schedules.

I'm only writing my review for the math portion, I didn't even glance the reading portion because I'm very confident that I'll always do well on those.I took my test yesterday and I feel 95% confident that I did well enough to get an interview. I think if I didn't buy the book I maybe could've passed but it would've been way closer to the wire.There's a lot of stuff that's useful to study in this, like graphing, polynomials. finding the slope, etc. The book actually doesn't do a great job of explaining it in depth so I used Khan Academy. If you go to the Algebra 1 section that should help you with everything.The practice tests are super hard in some spots and strange because it'll ask you questions that were never even addressed in the book. An example is it didn't talk about COS, TAN stuff (which wasn't on my test, btw) at all and then in the practice test there were questions about it. I will say that if you crush the practice tests then you'll do great on the IBEW test because it was like the difference between taking an Algebra 1 test when you're studying calculus.So I'd say get the book if you're not confident you'll pass like how I felt and it will be a good way of not only learning but learning what to study. If you use only the book I think you may pass but really use Khan Academy as well.

Great alternative study material for the aptitude test!!

Nothing Electrical in the whole book! Who knew that electrical apprentices needed higher Math & English skills? This Test Prep Book is therefore beneficial for everyone. The Math and English reviews were easy to understand and built, step by step, from easy to more complicated. The exams were TOUGH. The explanations are clear. I will say I have objections to some of the English questions & answers, but that's also typical for students. The book is laid out well, with additional training & testing options mentioned early on. This allows students who study differently to not waste time on unproductive formats. I will be donating this copy to a local training school for their student's benefit.

The practice test portion of the book is good and comprehensive but the study guide portion at the beginning is much smaller and doesn’t have much good information for their explanations

The cover of the book is well organized giving the relevant information. It clearly expresses that there are 3 practice exams with detailed answers. All problems are followed by an answer explanation allowing a person to learn from their mistakes. With three tests the test taker will gain familiarity with the test format. Like the cover the book itself has straight forward and well organized. I recommend the book for Electrician Apprentices who want to be confident when taking exams.
