After reading bad reviews on other brands of reed switches,with people saying that some don't work, I tested these, assoon as I got them. All are working, and all are properly sensitive.I'm making some 'mood lights', to use outside, while while enjoyingthe fall weather. I used mason jars, filled with strings of LED's (fairy lights)and a battery pack. It was a great idea, but having to unscrew the lids,reach inside, and fiddle with a tiny switch was going to get really old, really fast.I made some wood bases for the jars and countersunk neodymium magnets into them.I then soldered these reed switches in series with the battery packs.Now, I simply set the jars on the bases, to turn them on, or remove them, to turn them off.If you countersink the magnets into the base, from the underside, where they won't show,it really adds to the 'magical' effect of it, and also gives a nicer overall appearance..Hopefully, someone else can use this idea, too!

Great switches.

To test, I mounted a couple of switches on a small wheel that rotated near one of the magnets. Work great as the wheel gets close to the magnet, but when i removed the magnet far away and spun the wheel fast one of the switch i was testing randomly closed and hung up. If i tapped it it would release.

4 of the 10 glass encased switches did not work new.

These are great reed switches. You get 10 glass reed switches, 5 plastic-encased switches, as well as 15 small magnets. They are normally open, until brought near a magnetic field, in which case they close. These will close when they’re about 1 to 1.5 cm from the included magnets, which is a good, typical distance. These are great for building products that are fully encased, sealed, or potted (e.g. waterproof) but you still need the user to interact with it, via the magnetic switch. Typically, in the field, this is the magnetic tip of the technician’s screwdriver. They work really well for that application.I tested all 15 of the reed switches, and found just one defective glass switch that wouldn’t close. I’m not going to hold this against the seller, because these switches are very delicate, and in my experience working with these the failure rate is always a bit high, so I think 1 failure out of 15 is acceptable. I’m still going to give these 5 stars, since you get both the glass and plastic version, as well as 15 little magnets.Final Rating: 5 stars!
