Unputdownable Thriller
This is 5th & latest novel of Mr. Taylor Adams I finished reading. Though “The Last Word” was published in the US months back but the paperback edition was made available in India few weeks back and I lost no time in ordering it through Amazon. The setting is your typical Taylor Adams, less characters (for me the less the better), the cul-de-sac type of single place setting and the proverbial tables being turned multiple times. You may think that you have got it all figured out, but Mr. Adams pulls the rug from under your feet not once but multiple times.I sincerely think that the terms “page turner” and “trip hammer excitement” were coined for the likes of Taylor Adams and James Hadley Chase. Once you start reading their books you won’t be able to put them down. The blurb of the book gives you an idea of the premise which is basically about Emma (living alone with her dog Laika) giving 1 star rating to an e book on Amazon and refusing to take down the scathing review inspite of repeated requests by the author H.G Kane. Lo and behold the author (who is a serial killer and a swordsmanship expert of sorts) turns up at her remote seaside house to extract his revenge aka kill her.Emma’s reticent neighbor Deek stays a quarter of a mile away and she communicates with him via a white board & telescope (bizarre way to communicate if you ask me). The cat and mouse chase between the hunter and the hunted will have you glued to this book. All in all, “The Last Word” is right there at the top of the thriller genre. As I mentioned in my earlier reviews, all of Mr. Adam’s works truly deserve to be #1 on the bestseller list. As for me I will eagerly read any book Mr. Adams pens down!!!

This is what you call an experience worth every penny! (Paisa-vasool for me)
This is what you call an experience worth every penny! While it was graphic, insanely dark and gave me an intense adrenaline rush, the fact that the author is chasing someone who gave his book a 1-star review creeped me out as a reader and reviewer myself. It’s easy to read, great for beginners, but it’s not for the faint-hearted. It’s creepy. It's terrifying. IT'S THE BEST.If you love thrillers that get intense, this one is a treat, like it was for me! Love the writing and highly recommend it.

Good for one time read.
She thought she was living alone on a secluded beach, just an old neighbour to give company and trees and water as far as you can see, what can go wrong?Well if you read thrillers then you know EVERYTHING CAN.The story unfolds in a coastal town where Emma came believing she had dodged whatever happened in her past. One day she reads a book rated negative. The creepy email which she received from the author unnerved her guts but she decided to ignore it. Soon she started feeling she wasn't as alone as she believed. The unsettling feeling of being watched permeates every page and Taylor Adam excels at creating the atmosphere of impending danger. The inception and blurb of the book attracted me towards it. But after a few chapters, the flow felt sluggish and tedious. But I didn't put it down because I had already read another book from the author and I had trust, which gladly paid off. After the middle of the story, the book peeks pace and one after another twists and dark secrets start unfurling. What is going to happen to Emma?Someone stalking her or is she just paranoid? What transpired in the past that pushed Emma to live in seclusion?Who is the old man in her neighbourhood? If you love beachside backdrop thriller books then this can be a good choice.

Over-Rated
There's something artificial about this book. I have read 2 other books by the author. I enjoyed this one but the last quarter was quite bad. The constant twists and turns seemed so forced and lost the element of ingenuity.

Terrifying psychological suspense thriller
This is the most terrifying psychological suspense thriller. The book has jaw dropping twist and it’s disturbing. Emma read one of the book recommended to her written by Author H.G. Kane, Murder Moutain. And it disappointed her so she leave one star review. After that she receives a message from author to take it down. Emma declines. The unthinkable and unexpected happens. She begin to see ghost, dark figure outside her home and her life turns upside down. She is not able to fathom what’s happening with her. She lives alone with her dog. As she wanted to be in complete isolation. She didn’t see this coming. The ending was so twisted, horrifying and unpredictable. This book literally scared me. It’s the most terrifying book I have ever read. The ending will shook you and the truth is more twisted than it appears to be.

Amazing edge of your seat book!
If I could rate this a 1 star I would, but I don’t want to be tracked down and killed… This book was awesome, kept me interested every page I turned! The flow of this story was amazingly scary! Will recommend to everyone!

Simply amazing
I've never been into reading books, but a few months ago I decided to buy a novel to try to encourage my son to want to read as he is learning to read. I bought a book that ended up being a disappointment (but I still read it). After reading it I went online to read so e reviews and found one that talked about how the book was not very good unlike the book "The last word". (Which is funny as the book is about someone reviewing a bad book). This book was a great read and I'm so happy I took this reviewers word and bought this book. It was interesting, exciting, thrilling, kept me guessing. It was very well written and definitely my favorite book I've read up until now. It was a amazing book and I had a hard time putting it down (which is saying a lot from someone who is just trying to get into reading).I've already ordered my next book which is No exit also from Taylor Adams and I hope I'll have the same great experience

I loved the author’s dedication to making the story believable.
I’ve read Taylor’s other novels Eyeshot, No Exit & Hairpin Bridge & can confirm they all have the same flavour as this book, so if you enjoyed this one I’d definitely recommend reading those too. But I think The Last Word might have been my favourite of the bunch due to the twisty ending & the clever use of two narratives, one being told in the present & the second being a novel looking back on the events unfolding in the here & now, very unique! The author mentions a couple of times in the text that coincidences in fiction are bad writing (or something to that affect) & I felt that they did a great job at ironing out inconsistencies & tying up all loose ends to make the tale believable & realistic. The ending (without spoilers!) featured so many twists, I know that all books make this claim but honestly, there were so many flip flops & fake-outs in the final act, it was so exciting & satisfying! I loved it.

Watch out about leaving those one star reviews (tongue in cheek)
Emma Carpenter has her reasons for isolating herself on the Washington coast, housesitting with her golden retriever, Laiko. She has the bare minimum of contact with the eccentric neighbor and otherwise spends her days reading and walking on the beach. After reading a gruesome horror thriller that her neighbor mentions, she ends up leaving a one-star review, which is NOT handled well by the author.Soon Emma is hearing noises at night and she is finding out that people DO read those reviews.I enjoyed this thriller. It had a couple of good twists and was a fun read.I received this Digital Reading Copy from William Morrow Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review. This is that review.
