Works very well and worth a 5 star as a working unit, but trying to insert 2 button batteries is a real fiddle. Getting the negative cone spring in contact with the negative of a button battery while inserting a second battery (2 required) is not the best design.

Suited my purpose for what I wanted it for led lights on stair case

New gen switched-mode power supplies are better than old unregulated cheap ones. This item is the one of the cheapest switched-mode ones to offer a good quality 3V-12V DC output from 100-240V AC input, with reversible polarity and 8 adaptors. 1500mA is more than enough for many small gadgets. If you use a low spec gadget (1000mA or less for example), this would ensure longer duration of power supply without warming the adaptor. I haven't tested myself the quality of this product in long-term usage, but this works well, looks well-built and reasonable for the price. I am buying this for a Roberts R9993 radio, but this should support a large number of other gadgets as well.I like especially:* the key (a screw driver would also work) to change the voltage and the location of the voltage changing/indicator at the back - both restricting accidental change;* Polarity switching (fitting DC adaptor pins at the end of the cord) is quite easy with carved markings in the adaptor pins indicating whether it is + or - in the centre/side - leaving the user with no guess work or damage to the equipment.More info available from Mercury's website:[...]

I was looking for adapters for some of our Christmas village items that are 110v from the states. These adapters work really well. You do need to make sure you have the right polarity though.

Having had this for a while now. I can say that I can't fault this item.At the time of writing the item comes with the following adaptor plugs:3.5mm jack2.35 x 0.75mm3.5 x 1.35mm4 x 1.7mm5 x 2.1mm5.5 x 2.1mm5.5 x 2.5mm6.3 x 3mmThe polarity can be changed by changing the way the plugs are clipped in and a small rotating switch on the bottom of the adaptor allows you to switch between 3, 4.5, 5, 6, 7.5, 9 and 12 volts.I would like to check the efficiency claims, but I lack the equipment to do so. It does run mildly warm when operating at 1500Ma.

We got this to replace a busted one on clock radio it came quickly & seems robust only 4 stars as there are no instructions & you have to look very carefully at the assorted plugs to get the right polarity.

This seems like a very good power supply switch (transformer). I needed it for a dedicated supply, so I have wired it into a curcuit. But it comes with a useful set of different sized plugs for different appliances which slot into a socket end. Along with the selectable voltage output (good 'clicky' switch you turn with a screwdriver) this makes it very versatile indeed. Excellent for the price.
