Our 1 year old loves this drum and it makes a nice variety of sounds.

Nice design but awful sound
Through this was going to another high quality brio toy, but it make an awful sound - like banging on a piece of timber. Nothing musical about it. Avoid.

This is a sturdy drum with a thick handled drumstick with rubber top that it is easy for older babies to use. The stick stores under the drum, held securely, but it is possible for older babies to get it out by themselves if they want to. The only possible flaw is that the holes in the top make it possible for food to get lodged inside and it would be hard to get inside to clean. My son has been using it from about 9 months to 1 year old and it makes enough noise to hold his attention, but is not so loud as to be irritating. It makes a few different sounds on the top as well as the side. It is made to the same excellent standard as other Brio products.

I expected a wooden drum, but only the top is made of wood, the rest is plastic. Durable, but due to the plastic has no weight to it, which means that if my son drums on the side it will tip. Also it takes quite some force to make it heard. Only will work wellwith the specific drumstick - hands won't be heard at all, it's a hard surface, and other drumsticks won't sound nice. It's nice that it has 3 notes, but of course that is not for clumsy baby hands to play easily. Would not buy it again I have to say, rather would advise parents to buy their kids proper drums that they can also play with their hands.

My baby can now sit up and this is perfect as he loves making a noise! I have found that wooden toys are far more durable and brio has been our go to brand for many of our son's toys. It's not huge so doesn't take up loads of space and easy to store away, easy to clean and great fun to play with!
