Have this ON HAND. REALLY!
In my case, my pump died the day I was to leave on vacation and I already had an over growth of algae happening suddenly from when my landlord trimmed my trees way back and suddenly there was LIGHT like crazy and the balance got thrown off. I wasn't able to find this part locally and I bought a whole other pump. Terrible idea. The salesman was on crack. It was one of those with the foam filters. I told him I was over run with algae! Anyway, there wasn't time. The house sitter kept cleaning the foam and trying to manage the clogs and the fish died within 48 hours. I regret not having this on hand. It won't happen again. It was an easy installation because it is magnetized. I think I undid 4 screws, pulled out a bunch of broken pieces and was thinking, "should I be worried about in what order these pieces go? But they are crumbling...how can I tell?". However, I opened the box and pulled out just one piece...the entire assembly and it only goes in one way into that hole. There is satisfaction when the magnet clicks into place. I put the head of it back on and the 4 screws and was back in business. This is my favorite pump that I have owned and I have owned two in a row. Long life thanks to the availability of the main replacement part and how easy it is to unclog the impeller if clogged. The pump itself has a wonderful housing. My fish wouldn't have died if I would have gotten this pump back up and running. I think I forgot how easy it was to replace this thing in the past because it quickly left my mind but this time, I wrote this review to reassure you, there will be no issue. When your pump is out, it's really really dangerous for your fish, so after about a year of owning your pump (just to be safe), I recommend buying this and just having it on hand. You probably won't need it until closer to 2 years and maybe 3! Better safe than sorry, right? The shipping was very fast.

A rare occurence
Several years ago I bought 2 Laguna 5 utility pumps for my fish ponds. They were amazingly inexpensive and did a bang-up job for many years. I recently moved and installed a new fishpond with a waterfall and attempted to use one of the old pumps. Sadly, it would not run for longer than 60 seconds and nothing I could do would fix it. When I tried to buy a new one, I quickly discovered they are no longer made, and an equivalent Laguna pump now cost over $200. While I was cursing Laguna for their greedy ways and desperately Googling for a reasonable replacement, one of my searches found this impeller assembly. While the description didn't actually list the Laguna 5, it did come up in the search and it looked like the old one. Considering how little it cost as compared to a whole new pump, I figured I'd take a shot. I'm happy to say that it worked like a champ. It's been happily pumping away for about 3 weeks now without a hitch.

Perfect fit
I have a 20 year old Powerjet pump that stopped moving water. The pump still worked it just could not move water above the outlet head. Thankfully Hagen still import these impellers from Italy and the sizes are still the same. Replacement was a bit of a chore as the one end of the impeller shaft was stuck in the body of the pump (yes in 20 years use the ceramic shaft cap junction wore thru). After some fancy work with needle nose pliers I was able to remove the end cap and installed the new impeller and bolted the pump back up. I use a little dielectric grease on the orings and reinstalled the fountain, filter, waterfall, and uv sterilizer. Pump fired up and water started to flow. Pump works like it was new again (yea!). Water cleared up in a matter of hours and my wife was pleased that she has her water garden back to normal. Impellers are expensive but 20 years lifespan is pretty acceptable and the fact that I don't have to drop several hundred dollars into a new pump makes the forty dollar price tag do-able.

Works as it should....
Well, you can hardly complain about the product when you have no other options available to you :) Anyways, I have to replace the impeller about once a year and it is imperative that after you take the pump apart you clean it thoroughly before re-installing the new impeller otherwise, any debris that is left behind could shorten the lifespan significantly. I wish they would use a slightly harder more durable plastic on the actual blades of the impeller and the main shaft since that seems to be the part that brakes most often...until then, $20.00 a year to keep the pond up and running!

I have 3 Laguna pumps and replace the impellers almost every spring. It makes me crazy that the little black plastic ring that has the fins on it is the only part that goes bad, but I have to buy the entire impeller just to get that .30 piece of plastic. It is still cheaper than a new pump, but I wish I could just buy the little part with the fins or wings on it or maybe that they would last more than one summer.

Easiest repair ever!!!

Easy repair
Arrived in short order. The hardest part was getting all the pieces of the old impeller out. Once that was done it was drop the new one in and put the 4 screws back in, close up the case and the pump was ready to be switched out with the backup pump.
