It works fine and for the price is fantastic.
The only disappointment is that the cables are STRICTLY SATA & will not work with SAS HDDs. The firmware is not the latest, but it worked on my system, Debian Linux 12 on an ASRock K10N78M Mobo. Have not tested it with multiple drives yet but no reason do doubt it will work fine. HOWEVER! some notes of caution1. This device will get HOT if your case does not maintain positive airflow to draw cooling air in through the mounting plate which is an open grid. I ran it with the case side panel off and it got too hot to touch and was not recognized by the firmware updater until I ran it with the case panel on snuggly!2. Another word of caution which has nothing to do with this device, but whith SATA and SAS devices. If you have an older power supply which supplied voltage to pin 3 of the SATA/SAS power connector, the device will NOT power up and you'll think the HDD or the interface is faulty. Can be easily fixed with an adapter such as Cable Matters 3-Pack 4 Pin Molex to Dual SATA Power Y-Cable Adapter- 6 Inches which fixed the problem for me.

Shipped with P7 firmware from seller Aeon Micro, Inc.
The description written for this item says that this card will be flashed with the latest firmware. This was not true, as my card came flashed with P7 firmware. I purchased this from seller "Aeon Micro, Inc." I was able to flash P16 firmware myself onto it successfully, however I am docking a star for having to flash it myself. The item itself works perfectly. Make sure you have some kind of cooling fan on the heatsink if you are not using this in a server environment with constant airflow over the card.

This does the trick
This HBA card does the trick. I don't have any SSD's or HDD's connected but I do have two LTO tape drives which work perfectly. I did have to uprade the firmware to the latest myself but other than I am happy with this purchase.

No where near latest firmware
Bought a couple of these and ran into nothing but problems using ExosX16 drives. Updated the firmware (what come with it is way out of date) and have had no issues since. Tried to post a how to guide for the firmware in my review but A decided to not publish it cause it was not favorable so posting this one.

Not the lastest firmware, but works.
This came in an excellent package, like it looked like it hasn’t been opened since it was sealed at the factory. It takes ~4 minutes to boot normally, but if you update it to latest firmware it drastically speeds it up to 30 seconds or so. Make sure it has direct airflow (attach a fan), it gets hot and pulls ~30W.

Not the latest firmware
As noted by another reviewer, this card, while totally functional, comes with very outdated firmware. The latest firmware released in 2018 is still available on Broadcom's site and was fairly trivial to install, but the card should not be advertised as having the latest firmware flashed if it actually doesn't.
