I did my homework on this product and even with all the negative reviews, I still thought it worth a try. As per what seems to be the norm, the head started coming loose. I partially fixed that. I'll complete it after I get to town for parts. Even after sharpening the point, there's not a chance it will penetrate the end grain on a block of oak....BUT, with a bit of practice it will stick in the bark so the block can be lifted and moved. I've never used a hookeroon before so this is a learn as I go situation. Do I like it? I'm beginning to. Do I recommend it? Kinda, sorta, maybe......jerr

I think this is the first time I’ve ever reviewed something…. Anywho, I’m a carpenter, and have worked as a logger in the past. I have a vintage pickaroon that works very well, but wanted a second with a longer handle for better reach. Morale of the story is, the tip is way too thick to actually stick. If you swing it REALLY hard you can get it to stick to pick up a decent sized piece of wood, but not for long. On top of that, the handle is much too large to be swung comfortably, and I’ve got pretty big hands. I carved the handle down and made it octagonal, and with a grinder tuned up the shape of the pick head to a much thinner profile with a less aggressive curve at the end. It picks much nicer now, and releases with a flick of the wrist. Only writing the review because the tool is pretty close to being quite good out of the box, but just needs that extra bit of care by the manufacturer to make it great. Hope this helps somebody.

I bought this exact brand and model before, now it is at my son's house so I got another one.I find that a short handle pickaroon is one of the handiest tools I use for handling firewood.This one is very well designed, works great, good old american hickory handle... I like.

you can "hook" and carry a pretty large round or split around without constantly having to bend and squat to pick them up. hook goes in easy and it's not as hard to extract as i was thinking it would be. I'm getting a older and this is kinder to my back and knees.

This Pickaroon works effectively and is extremely well priced. The delivery service brought me a crushed box and the handle was dented. Based on the use of this tool, dents are expected so no big deal

This is a must have if you cut firewood bigger around that 12”. It puts a solid handle onto any piece of firewood that’s easily removed. West coast must have. Only complaint was that it was pretty dull had to give it a tune up on the grinder.

The media could not be loaded.  A pickaroon will save your back. I use it to stack wood onto my firewood cart. You can use it to stack wood, or drag logs around,clear trails,whatever!It takes a little longer than bending over to grab chunks of wood but come on, it really saves the stress on your back! I've had spinal surgery and it really aggravates my back to bend. My wife forbids me to do wood. With this pickaroon, I don't get in trouble anymore...at least not for doing wood. Tell your wife that I insist on it. How can she argue? However, after using this particular model, the tip snapped off! I probably moved about 200 pieces of firewood and then noticed it stopped sticking in.Fortunately, Amazon was great at giving me a refund, so I bought a different model made from Fiskars. So far,so good. This new model has a lifetime warranty so I bought it with confidence.
