Truly an essential guide to long distance motorcycle touring
This truly is an essential guide to long distance motorcycle touring.I am an 80 year old rider and have found that in this book, everything needed for a successful trip has been included. Here you will find help in choosing proper clothing, equipment, accessories and tips on where to go, where to stay and how to make your plan. Mr. Coyner has gone to great lengths to produce a guide for every biker, those who have the wherewithal to travel in this country and abroad. He has also asked other professionals to offer assistance in their field of expertise.A thoughtful guide written in layman's language that is helpful for the beginner as well as the seasoned long distance motorcycle tourist. I will highly recommend this book to my friends and fellow riders.

Good touring book for big tours on big bikes
Great book for BMW and Goldwing riders riding cross country. Notice that I skipped Harley riders as their luggage won't stow enough of the gear recommended in this book. This a book for committed long distance Iron Butt Association type riders. For those riding smaller bikes with less luggage I'd recommend "Easy Motorcycle Touring" 2nd Ed. on Amazon Kindle instead. If you have a middleweight twin MT-07 / SV650 / V-Strom / Versys you can still load it up for one-up touring with a dry bag strapped on and a rain suit packed if you're not camping and cooking on trip. One of the best books I read of a guy touring lightly and cheaply on an FZ1 with homemade panniers from toolboxes and dry bags was to use cheap Motel6 stopovers instead of KOA to save effort.

Excellent overview. Indispensable reading.
Even though I've biked a lot, I found the information useful and comprehensive. There are sections you can skip over but most of it should be read and thoroughly digested. I highly recommend it for beginners and experienced riders alike. There are many nuggets of valuable info. The writer relies on common sense to guide us through his explanations and reasons. Five stars.

Good Even for Experienced Riders
My dad has been riding bikes since he was a teenager and even he found useful information in this guide. I'll continue to get his feedback on it and report back if it turns out to be mostly junk info. The book itself was very well built and had good pictures.

He writes about things I don't want to know about.
It is a big book. But wring in my own circuit breaker box, towing a trailer, mental attitude is really has no interest to me. So very little in this book was " Oh that's a great idea".

Great book, lots of useful information
I was only a few pages into this book when I got some post-it notes to flag pages fro future reference. There is a lot of useful information about route planning, equipment, smartphone apps, web resources, etc. that I would not have thought to look for. Well worth the price if you have any interest in traveling by motorcycle.

Never to old to learn
Great book for the serious long distance biker who is new to the hobby. After some 45 years of biking I found some good tips on preparation before biking to Europe. A good bedtime read or may be a Christmas present?
