The Akkadian Empire
This is a captivating book about a fascinating empire. The Akkadian Empire rose to power before Assyria, Babylon, and Egypt. The Akkadian Empire appears to be the first Empire the world has ever known. When Sargon became king, he wanted to be known as a warrior king and began by creating the first standing army, known as the king's guards. We learned about Sargon from the clay tablets left behind along with many reliefs and stelae giving us stories and poems about the powerful Akkadian Empire, like the epic adventures of Gilgamesh. Words written by people from 2500 BCE. The most interesting part is how people from the Akkadian Empire may be people written about in the bible. I highly recommend reading this book.

Concise and entertaining
Nice how this relates the Akkadian empire to the Biblical era for context and evidence. This is a quick read that gives the baseline of the first societies.

Never stop learning.
I read “Mesopotamian Cities” not too long ago and this book is a perfect complement since it touches on the Akkadian Empire and the Sumerian City States. Based on archeological findings, we know that they had a system of writing which helps the reader/student understand that a lot of information is not just based on speculation compared to other ancient civilizations.I particularly liked chapter 7 which covers “The Legend of Cutha” and “The Curse of Agade”, and chapter 8 discusses “The Epic of Gilgamesh.”

not bad
Text was written in a layman’s manner and easy to follow. However the style could be more engaging to the reader.

The Akkadian Empire
I love reading about ancient history and culture, and this was a good one! I feel like the Akkadians are one of the lesser known groups to have ruled Mesopotamia. Even in school, I feel like this one was brushed over a bit. Nevertheless, I liked the breakdown of the rise and fall of the Akkadians, the discussion on prominent rulers, and the Akkadian contributions to religion, economy, and the arts. Though the names and pronunciations are daunting, it was an easy read!

World's first empire created model for succeeding world powers
I have read much about the Akkadian Empire but this is the most interesting book about the Akkadian Empire I have ever read. It is rich with illustrations showing the high level of workmanship of metal and artifacts during this first empire in the history of the world. By interpretation of the literature of the period you will learn much about the life and values of this ancient people. I am impressed by the research and composition of this book and the scope of the information provided. Most of the history is shrouded in mythology but coupled with archaeological discoveries the history can be pieced together with reasonable accuracy. If you are interested in the most ancient civilizations, in discoveries confirming faith, mythology of the mesopotamian civilizations or just a highly interesting book to read, this is the book for you. Was Sargon I the Nimrod mentioned in the bible? Was Sumer the Shinar of Nimrod? Is there evidence that there was a confounding of the language at the tower of Babel? What brought about the fall of the Akkadian Empire? These are only a few of the questions answered in this book. The Akkadian Empire set the organizational pattern for all future empires and some of the organizational patterns are used today. As a former history teacher I highly recommend this book. It will intrigue you, especially the last half of the book.
