Rise of Nations + Rise of Nations: Thrones & Patriots - PC

I've had the Ubisoft release of this game (from Amazon) for about a month now. I am very happy with it. It is very similar to Age of Empires or Command and Conquer RTS games of the past, with its own twist of course, so if you like those games you will like this one too. It has very low system requirements (graphics, ram, HD space)so it will probably work with most any PC, even one that's 5 years old or more, yet it still has acceptable graphics for an RTS. If you spend a lot of money on games frequently and have become a bit jaded, are not really into or just tired of old school RTS, or place graphics as a primary consideration when buying a game then I don't think this game is for you.I also own an original copy of Rise of Nations from when it was put out directly by Microsoft a few years back. Even after a few years, I still enjoy playing the game every so often and I got this newer copy so I can play the Thrones and Patriots expansion and also play with a friend in online/lan games.I have played a few single player and multi-player games, both online and lan, on a desktop PC running Windows XP and a Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium with no problems (so far). This disc is a little thinner and lighter than the original but has not affected its performance that I can tell.This game has a tremendous amount of replay value. The single player campaign is only a small fraction of the game and I only ever played through it once. The true value of this game is the single player battles as they call it. And also the multi-player battles. You can specify how many players (computer or human) up to 8 total, how many teams (if any), the rules for victory, the maps, how many resources you start with and so on and so on. There is a map editor as well but I haven't had to use it because you only select the map size and type - then the computer generates one of that type and size that you specified so you actually never play the exact same map twice. The Big Huge maps are just that - very large, suitable for up to 8 players.The Rise of Nations twist on the RTS is that you choose from one of 10 or so nations you want to play as, with its unique stats and abilities, and can progress from the ancient days of spears and catapults to modern times with stealth bombers and ICBMs. You can specify to start at any "age" and end at any age so if you only want muskets and cannons you can limit it to that or you could limit it to only modern day tanks and planes, etc. The game is not meant to be historically accurate - its just meant to be fun to play.

I own the original CD from it's release from 2003. Here's the strange thing. I built a Windows 7 based computer 4.5 years ago & it installed & worked fine. Just built a new rig a couple of months ago (again with WIN7) The original wouldn't work after countless exhausting searches on Google for RoN fixes. I heard from a few people to try the Amazon version with the expansion pack & that it worked for many people. BINGO! We have a winner.As soon as I installed RoN it worked right off the bat. Also...I want to note that the original CD took forever to install. The DVD version took maybe 2 minutes. Works perfectly on WIN7 Pro & it's patched to the latest update as well. I had the same exact problem with Microsoft's "Age of Mythology" with the original CD. Purchased a copy from Amazon & it's works without a hiccup.It's appears that this seller (shipped thru Amazon) is supplying the British copy version. I could care less as both RoN & Age of Mythology work. Note to Windows 10 users. I notice some people ripping the game because it doesn't work with that operating system. Be realistic. How can you expect software to be compatible 13 years after it's release? You can't. Suck it-up & move on. Great playing my old game from many years ago! I highly recommend it.

I purchased the orange cover 2-disc version of this game a few years ago and played a lot of games. I lost the play disc and bought this version of the game -- supposedly the same exact thing. I had a hard time getting Rise of Nations: throne of patriots to load and when I tried to play the game, the text wasn't visible. Fortunately I found fixes for these problems. If you do buy this game please consider:***FIX ONE: Load Rise of Nations first, then Thrones and Patriots. The single-disc version has both games on the CD. I loved the extra features of Thrones and Patriots and jumped to load this game first and went through a series of "can not load game because of XYZ" messages. I'm sure this is obvious to everyone else, but I loaded the first game in the series and then was able to load the second.FIX TWO: It was heartbreaking to finally load the game, and have to play without clear text messages. In this game the price of goods, trade data, and lots of crucial information are displayed on the screen in text. If you can only read the text when it is over a forest . . . the game is hard to play.I give total credit to this solution to the forums at Rise of Nations heavens. They suggested to expand the data boxes in the upper left corner of the screen. Once expanded the game plays normally.

I ordered it Sunday evening under 2 day shipping expecting it to ship Monday and arrive Wednesday but to my amazement it shipped that very night and arrived Tuesday afternoon.The game contained both RoN and RoN: Thrones and the Patriots both in 1 CD with the serial numbers printed on a label as clear as day. The case was wrapped with plastic like all games usually are and that was fine by me.The game itself is amazing and addicting, once you install it you don't need a cd to play which made me give the cd to my brother to install on his laptop. Now we're playing over LAN with no problems. We're both running Windows 7 so don't worry about compatibility issues there.However, depending on your graphics card, you MIGHT have a problem where the text help boxes and notifications disappear behind the terrain. It's easily fixed by expanding all the menus in the top left corner of the screen.This issue is NOT related to this copy of the game, but rather RoN in general so don't expect to get away from this problem by buying a different copy. It's a bit of a nuisance, but doesn't deter from the quality of the game itself. I give this order, game, and whole shabang a 5/5 and would not hesitate to buy another copy from here if I ever needed one.Good-bye straight A's ;)

I love it and I am 62. It was used in a research project on memory I participated in recently. At first it seemed overwhelming to learn how to use it. However, 2 days later, I thoroughly understood the goals. I am addicted to it now - playing it at first every day, now several times a week. The benefits of the game is it keeps my brain strong in reacting quickly and multitasking. There are many places and levels in the game. I play with the computer (at a lower level) and I win most of the time. It was game of the year many years ago and it is well deserved. The graphics and interactions of your village folks (and enemies) are amazing to watch. If you enjoying building and directing from scratch your towns (nation), you will like this game.

This was one of my favorite computer games when I was younger, but the disk we had was scratched beyond repair. This game is everything I remembered, and the additional Thrones and Patriots expansion made it even better! I tend to play as the Egyptian nation and try to win through territory or wonder victories, but the new options in the expansion pack are also really fun to play. My brothers and I can spend hours playing with each other, it's one of the few games that we actually all enjoy. It is an older game, so don't expect incredible graphics or anything, but as long as you go in expecting that, it's great.

I always loved rise of nations had the game for a long time till I lost the first disk. I wanted to get a new one, so I did and here we are.The nice part of this disk is that it comes as a one disk game and after you download it you don't need the disk, the version I did have you had to have the disk. All file download with this one.I also enjoy that it has all the nations in it that matter. ha-haI didn't like how There was an error sign after 3 times downloading it, and then there is still the issue of the drop down menu for the resources that blacks out unless fully un-collapsed all the trade and sell points and the unit count. Still great game, would purchase again.

The Game:It works on Window's 8. I'm running it on bootcamp on my MacBook Pro (no reason to spend the $50 on the Mac version. It is the Ubisoft version. I have not tried multiplayer yet, but I will update my review once I do. I mostly just play against the computer, which can be very difficult at times. Also it comes with a CD key for both Rise of Nations and the expansion pack.The Seller:I got this from BLS and they shipped it fast. No complaintsOverall:If you are looking for one of the best RTS games of all time, pick this up. Unlike Age of Empires, this goes all the way through the modern era. My only complaint with this game is I wish I could build walls like in AoE.

The game seems to play well with only a minor glitch. The glitch that I found was that the mountains would remain illuminated after the area had been explored. So far that is the only thing that was not the same as the original version I had for windows 2000 and windows XP. I or rather my grandson was grateful for the opportunity to play the game on my computer which has windows vista as an OS.

The item arrived sooner than expected which was great since I wanted to play the game pretty badly after trying the trial. The only downside is that my laptop processor is unable to process the original game Rise of Nations, the graphics become choppy and distorted after a game is started. Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots runs perfectly fine though, which makes me wish they could find a way to fix the problem with the first game.

I have loved this game for years and actually owned it a couple of years ago, until I moved and had left it behind. Well the deal for this game is way to good to pass up so I went for it, and within a couple of days. I received the game as one disk with both games on it. I was excited to step back into the game and play as if I hadn't played since yesterday. Thank you for the promptness and delivery of the game. I will buy from them again, when I need a new PC game.

I installed this game onto my computer with windows 7 expecting it to be a hassle to get it to work but once installed and after a quick restart of the computer it played perfectly it is extremely addicting fun if you liked Age of Empires you will love this game. But do be notified this is the European version not the US version dont know if there is any difference other than the absense of an american flag only a british flag for selecting English Language when installing. Also be sure to do Install NOT EXPRESS INSTALL.

I've always loved RoN since I was younger so I recently bought a couple of copies to keep around the house and sell to buds that are interested so I can share the experience in a secret of a great game like RoN. Great condition still had plastic around it. Perfect.
