Used for quilting
I have seen that quilters are using this item for flattening their seams. I decided to order one and was looking for something that was hand made - not from China. This one is very nice and smooth and I was very pleased witht the appearance and how well it worked.

Excellent wooden clapper
I was very pleased when I received the large size wooden clapper for pressing seams - it was not too big to use comfortably for small hands. Approx. size: 11 3/8" long x 2 5/8" wide at bottom, tapering to 1 5/8" wide at tip x 1 3/8" tall. It arrived sanded smooth with no burrs and after a quick dusting off, I was able to use it to get the flattest seams ever. Wish I would have bought one years ago - it really does make that big a difference in the quality of your sewing.

Wrong material.
My wife is a seamstress and uses a clapper all the time. This clapper is machined very well. The problem is the choice of wood. It is made of very nice oak……but, oak has a very open grain. This causes splinters on the edges, which will damage fine fabrics. A simple solution would be to use a denser wood like maple. I have tried sanding it many times, but it still splinters. This makes the clapper not useable, especially on fine fabrics.

Worth trying
If you have interest in this, please buy from this seller! I had all sorts of mail issues receiving this and the seller was outstanding in communication and resolving the issue.Ok, for the product. I was curious about these and, as a small treat, decided to try it out. This is what I have found after just a short use: it works better on a standard ironing board and with steam rather than in my will ironing mat. I DO think that the seams seem flatter and I’m happy I got it. Give it a try.
