Great, safe melting pot for pewter, solder, and lead.
This unit is a very basic unit that is super easy to use and works great. It does melt pewter hot enough to pour.I have several antique "tin solder" molds that were passed down in the family along with a steel ladle. 30 years ago we used a Bunsen burner or propane torch to melt lead. I wanted to use pewter to do the same but not heat up the garage. This unit did the trick. It took about five minutes for the electric heater element to heat the bottom of the crucible up to the pewter melting point. I let it heat another 3 minutes to reach a pouring temp, then steadily filled the molds. My old ladle was always a little shaky, but the Hot Pot 2 has enough heft to it that it was easy to control. As others have mentioned, the cord is a little shorter than what some may need, but worked out well on my bench with a power strip across the back. The unit is rated at 120 VAC. / 500 watts, so for USA but not for 200 volt circuits in Europe and elsewhere. That may account for some reported failures in the EU. Using a transformer or resister in series may work over there. The instructions warn about smoke from oil used during the manufacturing process coming off during the first usage, which did happen for me. However there wasn't much and it was only during the first use. I have not had any smoke after that.Update:This is a very safe, sturdy unit. It was accidentally left on overnight in a workshop. The next day I found it still heated up with a red hot element but no scorch marks on the bench underneath the stand. I learned a lesson on always unplugging the device after use. But the Hot Pot 2 is dependable.

Fast and QUITE durable
This product not only heats quickly, but even if it is left on for a very long time continuously (1 hour) it seems to not burn out, even when done multiple times. I only recommend using it in short bursts but it has shown to be by far the most durable product of this type on the market. Other manufacturers are made with much cheaper materials and the heat coil might burn out. This product however has no indicator light when it is on, so be careful, it doesn't have a switch, it can only be plugged in or out to turn off, I wish it had an indicator light. Nevertheless its effectiveness and durability allow it a 5 star review from me.

Works great for small projects
I bought this to make my own sinkers for fishing. It works great and heats up in about 10 minutes. I pour directly into my molds from the pot with no issues or dripping. It works great for what I’m doing, but if you’re looking for mass production, this is not the pot for you. The chord is really short and the stand is small and can be a bit wobbly but other than that, I recommend this product.

Excellent results met expectations
It does melt the lead fast as shown but be sure to give it time for it to warm up. Helps make the pouring precise and it gave me excellent results. Great job!
