Does the job. You get what you pay for. (Updated review and reduced to two stars.)
You know this is an inexpensive assemble-it-yourself rack. That is why you are looking at it. Knowing that . . . read on.Here are the pros and cons I found during assembly. I'm giving it four stars because of a cracked part and some assembly details that could have been better.Would I recommend it to a friend? If they want a rack that will do the job even though it doesn't look perfect, I would.Pros: > All of the parts were there. > The assembly instructions were clear. (The instructions were illustrations of the parts going together.) > The parts were well labeled and easy to identify. > It went together and will work.Cons: > Crack in one part. Not large. It won't show. The product will work. > Some parts did not go together well. Specifically, two shelves were tight in the hole. The screws pulled them into place though. > There is a top half and bottom half. The legs did not meet well in the middle. > There are small stickers on all the wooden parts to identify them. They are HARD to get off.Update 17 Dec 2016I just added my DVDs to the rack. I have reduced the rating from my original four starts to two stars. The sliding stops can slide to one side easily. Then DVDs start falling over and behind the rack. I have had rows a fourth to a half full and had all the DVDs fall and dump out the back of the rack.My work around is that I made sure all the rows are full so they can't start falling over sideways. In rows that are not full, a boxed set of DVDs makes a good "bookend" to keep them from falling over.Best wishes.

Love it!
Based on all of the negative reviews for this DVD rack I was expecting it to be really cheap, but when I took all of the parts out of the box I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of them: real wood pieces - not laminated particle board - and some pretty heavy duty metal rods. Maybe it's because my expectations were low, ha, but I think this is a very nice quality little DVD rack. It was pretty easy to assemble, too. And the directions are very simple and straight-forward. Honestly, I've never assembled anything by myself before, so I thought it would be a bit of a challenge for me. But it was no trouble and it only took about an hour. I did struggle a bit to attach the top and bottom half of the rack, but mainly because I needed to find a smaller screwdriver. Once I found a small screwdriver I was able to do it with ease. As you can see in the photos I have my DVD rack on carpeting. It's fairly sturdy but I try to be careful around it as I think it probably would fall over if you bump into it too roughly. The rack comes with a wall mount, though I haven't used mine. The only thing I need to do now is buy more films to fill up the shelves with. haha

Does what we bought them for.
Our DVD collection was getting out of hand. We needed a way to display and organize our movies. We bought two of these media storage units hoping they’d do the job.The first one assembled easily enough. However, I had difficulty with the second one fitting together properly. I ended up using some sand paper to clean up some edges were the shelves slot into the vertical brackets.I assembled the media storage units without the spacers so that we could fit at least one more DVD per shelf. That worked well and we were able to fit our entire movie collection on the two units. These media storage units would also be useful for video game and CD storage and display. They’re sturdy enough to move around without unloading the contents of them, but I wouldn’t want to climb on them or anything. The height and width of these is decent and they hold a gang of discs! I had to do a little extra work to get them to fit together correctly, but they do what we bought them to do: store DVDs!

Tilt
I bought 2 of these which are being returned. The list to the right on the pictured unit is not a illusion or the way the picture was taken, it really is that far off. These are not the easiest to assemble, but do-able, you just have to take your time, and maybe have a helper. I believe the pockets for the slates the CDs sit on are the issue, and because of that there is no easy fix. Both units I got had the same problem. These are very light, and not very strong, but if they had been correctly manufactured would have done the job. And for the price that's all you could ask.Until the manufacture corrects the issue they are not usable.

I'm surprised at how much I like this! (updated)
I bought this months ago and forgot about it and never put it together. So today I decided to put it together. Had I had 3 arms, it would have been easier, but it really wasn't horribly difficult! When it came time to insert the metal rods, I wished that the little holes that they fit in had been a tad bit deeper because I'd get them in and start screwing the screw in and it wouldn't be tight enough on the far end and that one would fall out, and when I put that one back in, the other 2 would fall out... kind of like a comedy routine except it was a tad bit frustrating for me!!! :)It seems plenty sturdy, and I actually carried it from the kitchen to the hall, where it will live, with 2 dvd's and a blue ray in it and those didn't fall out.I really like it, so much so that I ordered 2 more. Hopefully I won't have to cuss so much with these since I think I've got the hang of putting them together!! :)EDITED:I just put the two new ones together. It's getting easier and I don't need the directions anymore!! On the two that I put together today I left off the piece wood that is a "sliding divider" because these two will mostly be holding DVD's that I don't watch terribly often.I have had no problems with any of my DVD cases fitting. And none have fallen out the back. Yes, the DVD's are snug, but that's OK, I want them to be snug. I'm putting all my blu-rays on the top shelves, works best for me.But I'm really happy with these, they look great too.Hoping my next two will be here the beginning of next week, I'm anxious to get my DVD's up on these and out of my way in my sewing studio. Heck, I might even break down and get one or two of these for my CDs as well. :)

I wanted it to be good...
... but should have listened to my gut after reading all the reviews prior to purchasing. I purchased this for $68.31 and the price is now $77.07! Absolute rip off!The reviews said that it was overpriced and it wasn't sturdy, and they were right! I bought this because no matter where I looked (Walmart, IKEA, Home Depot, Costco, etc), I couldn't find a simple DVD rack. So it was between this one and the other version by the same company that's made of plastic. Due to the dark brown finish on this and it matches my bed and computer desk, I opted for this one. Spoiler: I would not recommend buying this or the plastic version for the reasons below:CONS:- The sturdiness plain sucks. If you don't use the little rope thing to attach one side (it doesn't come with two... which is odd) of the rack to the wall, you literally pull a game out and everything falls like dominos. The slider holders aren't good either. I had to install a metal plate to hold it against the wall, which obviously isn't ideal as if I want to move the rack, I have to unscrew the plate from the wall...- Regardless of building this 100% correctly (feet are on properly too, as some reviews say people may have missed that - I did not!), the whole rack leans to the right (even when there's no DVDs/games on it!)PROS:- It looks nice. It's cheap wood and everything on it is lightweight. Glad I chose this one over the plastic one, but the price for this thing, in general, is $40 too much for what you get. Not exactly dollar store quality, but pretty close!- It holds games my Xbox One/Xbox 360 games... but refer back to the sturdiness of the rack in the "Cons" section above...Overall, I would not recommend this rack. You want a rack that is sturdy, this is not. It doesn't even stand up straight regardless of constructing it perfectly. Believe the reviews, and buyer beware!

Not Sturdy At All
Do you see it leaning to the right? How long is this going to last? I'm afraid it will break and my DVDs will be ruined. Took my husband maybe 40 minutes to assemble on his own, and now it's leaning to the right? Why? We are big Ikea buyers. We're use to assembling things. Why is this rack leaning the way it is?We just put it up today. I'll let you know if it breaks. On the plus side. We bought it for the color and because it's wood. It's also lightweight and handy for storing DVDs, CDs, Blue Ray's and video games.Expensive for what it is.

look out for alignment of the upper and lower subassemblies
This is extremely simple to assemble. However to have a workmate table will help if working alone. Needs only a Philips screwdriver. There was a sight alignment of the dowel on one side that left a small gap on one side when joining the two sub assemblies.Loading the rack is a bit tricky until you realize that loading two at a time at the bottom using the slider support will prevent the dvds from falling through should the rack can not be flush with the wall as in apartments with baseboard heaters.
