Who needs ceiling fans?
My bedroom ceiling fan died this summer. I live in a hot climate, where a ceiling fan being out of commission is not a problem you can comfortably ignore. I took a chance on this fan just to have a quick replacement until I deal with the ceiling fan. Now we're in October and fixing the ceiling fan has been put off repeatedly because this thing is better than the ceiling fan in my opinon.Remote control is a nice extra. It will turn fan on or off, has a separate button that cycles through 3 fan speeds, and a timer button that seems to start a "turn off in 30 minutes" countdown--I can't say as I run it all night. You might want a button to control oscillation, but there's where you're out of luck. I'm assuming that this saves money, and honestly, it doesn't really matter to me -- who is switching between direct fan and oscillating fan over and over anyhow? Just having the remote and adjusting speed from bed is the best part.Noise. It isn't quiet even on lowest speed. If you watch TV at night in your bedroom, you are going to have to turn up the TV and/or turn down the fan most likely. Again, to me this is an easy compromise for live-preserving breezes.Assembly was pretty easy. Attaching the stand pieces together didn't really need instructions if you've ever put anything with a telescoping base together before, but there are instructions. You'll need to attach the fan blade and secure it with a nut, and you'll need to patiently work the front cover of the fan into place to keep fingers out of the spinning blade. This was the longest part of the build because it kept popping loose when I almost had it secured. Maybe I just wasn't good at it :-) It certainly wasn't annoying enough to detract from recommending the fan.All in all, it has outlived my intended use for it, and shows no issues. I've come to like it better than the ceiling fan, and the noise kinda fades into the background (I'm usually running on medium or low). If I ever fix the ceiling fan this will be a nice addition to the garage-workshop. If.

Great, Versatile Fan
Ordered this fan in the spring when the weather was just starting to get warm. It might be the single best thing I have bought from Amazon in a long time. And that's saying something!Relatively easy to assemble. Took 15 or 20 minutes of easy, semi-mindless assembly. Worked great from the beginning. I can't remember, but you might need to buy batteries for the remote. Amazon has great prices on their brand name batteries, and they are very high quality, so you might want to order those with the fan if you don't already have some around. I think they are AAA.I keep it in my bedroom to supplement my window A/C unit. My A/C is not super strong, but with this fan I am seriously chilly at times. I also point it out towards the rest of the apartment periodically, and between the fan and the bedroom A/C it keeps the whole place nice and cool. I don't need to turn on any of the other A/C units. When I'm in the kitchen cooking, I point it from the bedroom towards the kitchen in a fixed position and it keeps me cool while baking and cooking. At night when I'm sleeping, I put in on oscillate and it keeps me cool throughout the night. I also find that I breathe easier when sleeping because the fan is moving the air around in the room . (BTW, there are studies on the importance of good airflow in a bedroom when sleeping--it really makes a big difference.) Again, it's supplementing the A/C, but it's making a big impact--in terms of temperature, I'd say the room feels a good 5 to 10 degrees cooler when I'm sleeping with the fan on.Keep an eye on Warehouse Deals if you want a better price. But it's worth every penny of whatever you end up paying. One last comment....I didn't think I would ever use the remote, because the remote doesn't allow you to switch from oscillation to the fixed position. But it turns out that I use the remote all the time--several times a day I would say. I turn the fan on and off with the remote, and use it to control the fan speed--from low, to medium to high. While I do have to switch between fixed and oscillation manually, I can do everything else via the remote. I like that!Highly recommended!

Too fragile for regular use.
Broke after 2nd use. When putting it together it felt kind of flimsy, with all the plastic parts. I bought this late-Summer of 2024 and only used it twice before the weather cooled off. Over the winter it was stored by the door to my deck, and a few days ago I heard a crash from that area.It turned out that my Roomba had bumped into the base of the fan, and the plastic part that holds the fan assembly on the base had simply broken. the fan was just handing by the cord after smacking the table it was next to on the way down. Now folks that have a Roomba know this already, but Roombas have bumpers that sense when they touch something and stop or change the vacuums' direction. I've had mine bounce off my bare feet with no problems, and my old dog used to herd it like a rodeo cow by letting it bump his paws.In short, a Roomba doesn't exert a lot of force when it bumps something... This fan is simply that fragile.Unfortunately it doesn't look like an easily replaceable part, and I don't want to get an exchange for the same fragile unit, so it will just go in the trash and I'll buy a different fan for this Summer. It's too bad. I grew up with the Black and Decker name being a decent, budget priced brand. The last three items I've gotten from them have been pure junk. This fan is the last straw... I won't be making that mistake again.
