Excellent text book. Extremely important to anyone that study both animal and human behavior.There is a new version. Then, if you have money, go with the new version, but if not, this one is cheap and very actualized 2009.Ps.There is some people that don't like the writing stile of the author. He explain the concepts through several examples. If you don't like a lot of examples then maybe you should prefer other text books.

It is a very well written textbook, does not mislead readers. Chapters are well arranged with a good flow of contents. Not too sure if it's good enough for advanced ecologist/biologist, but it is a pretty good book for those that are interested with animal behaviour.

Using this text for an animal behavior course. Very well written, easy to read, and filled with numerous examples. My only complaint would be that the author sometimes fails to reiterate to his audience the importance of such examples.

This is the first Animal Behavior textbook I've ever used, but it's been very helpful in teaching my students. The book is full of excellent figures and case studies to flesh out each topic.

Had to get this book for school and it turned out being one of my favorite classes ever.

While I was required to get this book for class, it is an easy read. It is a large paperback which doesn't make it easy to protect to retain resale value, but the price was tolerable.

This text provides a lot of case studies and examples of animal behavior. It is great for my animal behavior class.

Great book

I chose this rating as it includes everything I need for my animal behaviour module at university. It is extremely helpful when writing my assignments and overall an interesting read. There are plenty of pictures/diagrams to back up what is said in the text which is always good as it can help you understand something if you don't get it in the text.I would recommend this book to any students on an animal based course/degree as said previously a big help with the study and writing side.Very pleased with this buy :)

日本語で書かれた動物行動学の教科書はめったに見つかるものではないので、必然と英語の教科書を使うことが多いです。行動学の講義を受けられない投稿者は手始めにこの本を購入しました。内容はかなり幅広い範囲の行動の進化について書かれているほか、輪読会を想定した各種議題も豊富に含まれているため、個人的な学習だけでなく多人数での学習にも適しています。また、この手の厚い本にしてはページ毎の字数が少なく、またページ数も比較的少ないので、初心者の私でも３ヶ月ほどで読了できたので、英語と行動学の学習を兼ねたいのであればなおのこといいチョイスだと思います。ただし、行動学の最も基礎的な部分―例えばティンバーゲンの４つの質問―はあまり深く語られないので、そこは適宜特定の分野をピックアップした和書あたりであっさり理解しておくと良いです。
