Good book for kids who read well, or new adult birders
If you are a serious birder, you use a "field guide" like Sibleys or Birds of North America or Petersens, but this has some great introductory stuff about birds that would be perfect I think for anyone who reads pretty well and is interested, kids or older, plus a couple pages about most of the specific common birds you see in the PNW. I liked how they lumped certain things together -- like all gulls together -- then discussed that there are a lot of varieties, comment on them generally for a page or two, and gave good references for more information. It's probably too much for my 4 year old grandson, who doesn't read yet, but I learned a thing or two (like how to pronounce "Bewicks" wren) and would be great for my daughter or wife, who know less about birds, to look up information about the more common birds we see in the Pacific Northwest, and tell some of it to my grandson. I may save it and give it to him when he's 10.

A great book for beginning bird-watchers in the Pacific Northwest!
I have been an avid bird enthusiast in Oregon and Washington for over 40 years. I bought a copy of this book for my young son, who likes to accompany me on my birding expeditions. I found this book to be a very well-written beginner's guide to birding in the PNW. While this book (as the title suggests) is geared towards school-aged kids, it could also be a great guide for adults who might be just getting interested in birding. It is informative and yet easy to read- and the photography is amazing. Even this old "know-it-all" birder learned a thing or two from this book! I highly recommend it.

Great photos and wonderful facts
This book is a wonderful teaching tool for kids (especially PNW kids!) It's well researched, formatted for use and practicality, and the photos are amazing. My child is a bit younger than the target audience, but she loves reading facts about her favorite birds and is now excited to go out to try and spot a few she didn't know about.Hats off to the writer and publisher- you've made something to inspire youngsters and help them be more excited about learning! We'll get many miles out of this book.

Great for any age!
What a great book! I’m an adult, not the actual target audience for this book. But I found to be relatable to any age. The author does not talk down to the reader, just plain and easily understood facts for the young naturalist or a novice birder like myself. The pictures are beautiful, and I have already identified what types of hummingbirds are frequenting my feeders (they are Anna’s in case you were wondering) and the Violt-green swallows that like to hang out on my neighbor’s roof!

Fantastic book!
I bought this book for my classroom and now my friend teachers all want one! The beautiful pictures, focus on the NW, and writing for kids/young adults makes it the perfect addition to our classroom library. I actually have one at home too!! Highly recommend!
