Not a true "wet food" for my cat with severe urinary tract issues.
This is the driest "wet food" I have ever seen. It's supposed to be good for cats with kidney and urinary tract issues my cat will not eat it...way to dry and crumbly. And...it's ineligible for returns.. :P

my cat loves it!
I have a senior cat whose test results are showing early signs of kidney problems. This food has very low phosphorus content, which is good for preserving kidney function, and is cheaper and easier to buy than the prescription cat food she might need if things get worse. But the best part is that, unlike a lot of restricted diet foods, my cat actually loves this! I popped open one can. She took one whiff and snarfed up a third of it right away. Phew!PS the pate is pretty thick, which is a good thing, it means you are getting cat food and not water. It's a good idea to add warm water to all canned cat food before serving, since cats tend to not drink enough water. This is particularly important for cats with kidney issues.

Poor Texture and Little Moisture
This product has the ingredients necessary to address renal issues but not texture and moisture. It is very flakey and seems dry. My cat has difficulty consuming it so it won't be on the menu in the futre. And, since I am not a cat, I cannot speak for the taste but my cat tried to eat some of it.

Inconsistent quality
I bought a lot of this food, and for a while it worked well. Texture was smooth, though a bit on the dry side, and 15yo cat at it readily and thrived. But over time I noticed the quality wasn't consistent, some cans had a less smooth, almost granular consistency, while other cans in the package were normal. This last package, though was awful, with extremely grainy texture that was springy and crumbly. I'm not happy, and the cat's not happy. Maybe Dave needs to take a trip to the Thailand manufacturing plant to see what they're doing to his product.

Cannot be returned and is falsely advertised as juicy
Old cat will not eat. This is not juicy as advertised on the side of each can!! It's a hard cake that an old cat cannot eat. I spent some time smashing it down - would have been easier in a food processor - with plenty of warm water. She finally lapped up some. And now I see that there is no way to return it. Waste of money. I should have paid attention to other reviews.

Customization may be necessary 😽
TL;DR: Worth a try. And as of this writing, the description says, "We’re happy to send you a free can.”First of all, Dave, I am so grateful you make non-Rx kidney diet that’s accessible on Amazon. It’s not inexpensive, but typically on par with or slightly cheaper than other kidney wet food on here (depending on the pricing algorithms that day).Though my sweet senior kitty sometimes likes Dave’s Restricted Phosphorus Diet, she doesn’t always love it. But I’m willing to put in work for the reasons mentioned above! It's pâté style — which is great — but pretty dry for wet food. To make it softer and stinkier, I zap a chonk in the microwave and mix in a little warm water before serving. Sometimes I add another low-phosphorus cat food (e.g., Tiki Cat Silver, Weruva Wx Phos Focused — available on Amazon), or if I get frustrated, a little regular cat food or Gerber plain meat baby food (also on Amazon). I’ve even bought a $10 mini whisk milk frother on here to make it all smooth, palatable, possible. So before you give up on Dave’s or any kidney diet, I urge you to try warming it, adding a little water, mixing it with other foods, literally blending it, maybe even coming back to it another day in hopes your kitty forgot about it.I know it’s frustrating when they don’t eat, and you’ve spent so much trying. But you are a good human, and you got this! 💪

Cats eat it!
Finally, a kidney care cat food my cats will eat. The one that needs it is eating it the one that does not need it is not as much of a fan but getting used to it. We are up to 50/50 now meaning 50% of the regular Dave's (turkey) and 50% of this. I add water and mush it with a fork until very smooth, then warm slightly. I am thankful. Unfortunately I never see any coupons or discounts etc.

Cat won't touch it
Such a bummer, this food is not sold in any other quantities than a case. We've gone through 3 cans of this food and my cat won't eat it. Most of the food has gone in the trash. It is a very solid, hard pate of food. I have mashed it up, that doesn't help. I have warmed it up slightly to make it more appetizing, that doesn't help. I mash cat treats into this food, it forces my cat to work for the treats, but this pate remains and gets thrown away....so disappointing.
