Great Value Bipod
A friend and I purchased rifles together but I thought to buy a bipod for mine. I got the bipod just as scheduled and coincidentally one day before my trip to the range. On range day I was able to test the bipod out. With 180 grain .308 Winchester rounds the bipod held up to its function. The rubber on the feet grips very well, the springs helps to take some of the felt recoil off your shoulder. The notched legs are very nice because you simply lift the bipod how high you want/need it and press the release button on both legs. The legs then spring out to the nearest setting for the height. I did notice a few things that potential buyers should note.1.) The bipod does not have padding. I have a synthetic stock so it doesn't matter but for someone with a wooden stock it could scratch the finish2.) When shooting a hi-caliber rifle the screw eventually will get loose so a quick tightening is a super fast and easy fix. After 50 rounds of .308 is what did it. Not a deal-breaker at all for meOverall it's a great bipod. I haven't owned a "Harris" brand bipod because I didn't have the budget for it so I can't compare but this bipod did everything I expected and that is why I gave it 5 stars. Also my friend who shot with my bipod first hand also ended up buying the same one. He recently used it and had the same reaction I did. Simply put, it works very well.

A Sturdy Shooting Platform
Overall, I am very satisfied with the Caldwell XLA 13-23 inch bipod. I bought this for my Tikka T3 270 win and it has performed well. There have been no negative issues shooting from this bipod. The farthest I've shot with it attached to my rifle so far is 200 yards. Generally, most of my shots on animals (elk, bear, deer) happen within 200 yards. The bipod was easy to install on my rifle and still allows me to have a sling attached. The price was very reasonable for how great this bipod is. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and how sturdy of a shooting platform the bipod gives me wether I'm at the range or in the field hunting big game.

Good product.
Two issues not affecting performance of the product. Lever hole had to be drilled to allow for installation of the sling swivel. Also it is not wide enough for the bipod to open easily. But it works.

It works, but it isn't harris quality.
Well, I purchased this in the hopes that I could find a cheaper alternative to a harris (or alike) bipod.. Well.. I was disappointed. The pros:InexpensiveMounts to the Caldwell picatinny adapter wellThe mounting point is curved to better fit a rifleThe mounting point has a foam/leather pad so marring wont take place once mounted. The cons:Very light weight, to the point that I feel it may break.. Better suited for a light use rifle or a .22The legs and tension screw are a bit canted.. It feels level when shooting but the unit itself angles a bit.The unit (when compact) make the rifle look off.. Almost stubby.. Which is more aesthetics than anything. The legs are a rough design.. For full rapid extension the legs cannot be touching anything and for the most part must be facing towards the ground (with the path of gravity)To retract the legs the system on the unit is quite rough and almost requires two hands.I wouldn't buy another one.. But its a decent spare to have on hand for someone else or as a back up. Spend the extra money and get a shooters ridge or a harris.

Pretty good for a budget bipod.
If you're looking for a bipod on a budget, these Caldwells deliver good value for the money. This one is on a Crosman Marauder I use for nighttime vermin eradication, and I have a swiveling model on my Savage-Anschutz 10. Both seem to be tough enough for non-rigorous use in ordinary environments. If you're heading into the back country, though, I'd go for a more rugged unit, like a Harris, or if you want a really tough bipod, an Atlas.

absolutely fantastic for the money
This bipod is absolutely fantastic. I originally got this for my newer remington 700, I was looking for a relatively cheap bipod because I had spent more on the gun and scope then I had anticipated and I really prefer a bipod over a sand bag or other stabilizer when shooting. I had always used harris bipods in the past which tend to be a little more expensive and was not expecting a whole lot when I bought this considering I paid a third of what I would have paid for a similar bipod. however...Wow, was I wrong. This bipod is definitely a quality product and chances are I will be using these on all of my future weapons. It is definitely just as sturdy as my harris bipods and works just as well, the only difference is that I paid a third of the price!

Get a shooters ridge champion bipod, it's better.
I put this Caldwell XLA bipod, nonpivot model on my son's .243 savage. To be honest it is a decent bipod but I would not buy another one, here is why it's legs are retractable but not really automatic spring return and they feel a little flimsy. The four stars are for easy installation, my son likes it good enough, and it looks tacticool. I have a shooters ridge champion bipod on another gun and in my opinion it is far superior for a budget bipod. Am I saying buy a Harris? Heck no, I would never throw down that moola for a bipod (so I'm cheap), I am saying get the champion it's just better.

Sturdy bipod
This bipod works great for small guns. Laying down prone doesn't work the best because the legs are too short, most of the time I end up using a bag underneath the bipod. If your not shooting far then this bipod does the trick. If you want to shoot farther off of uneven terrain, I would recommend getting the better version with an ability cant.Other than my problems, this bipod was made very well. It's perfect if your shooting off a table at a range.

They are sturdy enough but this model does not swivel
If you're looking for a cheap bipod solution, these might fit your bill. They are sturdy enough but this model does not swivel. The finish looked like someone did a cheap spraypaint job on it. The mounting system is identical to the Harris bipod. Good for your 22LR, air rifle, airsoft but I'd spend the extra for a real Harris for your centerfire rifles.

Caldwell XLA Bipod
Can't beat it for the price. It will be used for bench shooting. However I should have bought the swivel model.
