Enlightening
I've heard countless times that the difference between a good designer and a great one is how one handles typography. In my experience it's absolutely true. There are many designers out there that can make fantastic images, but when it comes to adding text their whole message falls apart. This book is the remedy.Lara McCormick's book explains and experiments throughout, ultimately giving the reader a broader repertoire of type applications. Whether it be how the letters look or how they're used, where they're applied or when they're enacted, who they're communicating with to the medium you use—this book explores it all.Fantastic read. Must have. It's on my bookshelf right next to Thinking With Type as one half of my must-have dynamic duo of typography books.

Refreshing and Very Insightful Typography Book
Playing with Type is a fun, refreshing and very insightful book on typographic experimentation! I find myself referencing it with my students all the time, letting them borrow it to help influence their projects and looking through it to inspire myself. The visual examples are great and span from found type, hand made type and digital based typography. The books supporting text is thoughtful and brings careful meaning to each section. Any educator or design geek should have this book on their bookshelf!
