This is a beautifully printed collection of Whelan's art, ranging over his entire career.I am a little disappointed that the publisher decided to go for a narrow page format, which creates difficulty in viewing the pictures (without creasing the spine of the book).However, the quality of print is very good and it makes a beautiful addition to my collection.

Es ist nicht einfach einen Meister des Science Fiction und x - maligen Hugo Award Gewinner zu würdigen...Michael Whelan ist ein Künstler der sich noch der klassischen und nicht digitalen Maltechnik bedient und unzählige Cover von SF und Fantasy Romanen gestaltet hat. Wie beschreibt man so einen Malstil richtig ? Phantastischer Realismus mit subtilem Symbolismus ? Dem Buch liegen Illustrationen zugrunde welche ganz unterschiedliche Schaffensperioden beinhalten wie z.B. alte wie Stormrider (Cirith Ungol - Frost And Fire Cover) und neuere, welche scheinbar immer Richtung Thema Angst, Hoffnung und Verzweiflung thematisieren, allerdings technisch immer brilliant !Ein Meister eines Genres das zusammen mit u.a.Tim White, Melvyn Grant, Peter Jones, Frank Frazetta und Rodney Matthews die Grundpfeiler für das gesetzt haben, was man heute SF und Fantasy Illustration nennt. Das Format enttäuscht mit 17 cm x 26 cm etwas, Druck und Farben sind jedoch gut. 4 Sterne !

Wonderful to see some of Michael's work again. I have missed seeing books published with his work on the cover. A joyful read as well as looking at all the pictures within.
