Metal durability and high quality
Solid construction. Handsomely painted black. UV won't break the metal down to crumbly nothingness like what happens to plastic versions. Make sure you get the top of the plate under your shingles if you're doing a refit install so you don't get leaks.

Well Constructed and Made in the USA
This is a very sturdy and well constructed roof vent. I really try hard to purchase items made in the USA and this was a really nice find in a sea of Chinese products. I purchased it to install in an already shingled roof as I was replacing a bathroom ceiling exhaust fan that was vented directly into the attic (the "This Old House" video on YouTube was very helpful for this project). I thought it was good to have the section of 4" duct already attached, but in retrospect, this made getting the vent underneath the existing shingles a bit more difficult. It did work out in the end, but I tore the two shingle flaps on the sides a bit tugging on them to get the vent underneath.I ended up having to enlarge the hole through the roof sheeting (plywood) to get the vent in place while sliding it under the shingles. This particular model would be better for new construction or in a situation where you are replacing the shingles. Alternatively, I could have removed the attached vent ducting collar and installed it as shown in the "This Old House" video. It worked just fine, but was a bit more difficult than a vent without the duct already attached. This vent has a nice galvanized screen and a flap that opens and closes to allow the vented air to escape. The screen was rubbing on the flap a bit, but was easily removed with a single screw and bent out of the way of the travel of the flap.Tools/Supplies I used:-hammer and nail (to mark the site for the vent placement from the inside of the attic-tape measure (to position the vent outside)-cordless drill with a 4-1/4" hole saw (to cut the hole through the sheeting of the attic roof)-utility knife (to cut shingles)-flat pry bar (to separate and elevate the shingles)-galvanized roofing nails-roofing caulk/caulk gun (to secure/waterproof the vent/shingles)

Way sturdier than Home Depot
I was going to pick up a similar design from Home Depot, but it was so flimsy and thin that I literally cut my skin handling it. I'm happy to report this design is much more sturdy and easy to install.

Saved A Ton Over Big Box Store Price! No More Critters Coming In Through Exhaust Fan!
Stops the cold air and critters coming in through exhaust fan. I was having a new shingle roof put on my mobile home and decided on these for replacements. I had tree frogs getting into the bathroom through the old vents and wasp and other insects getting in through all four. If you do need the clear a wasp nest(I don't think they can get through now) the screens are removable and easily accessed unlike the old mushroom vents. I believe most mobile homes will be the same as mine and have 6" duct attachments so, if there is room in your roof, you will need a 6" to 4" adapter or simply install new exhaust fans as most have 3" and 4" connections. I decided on exhaust fans with a 4" connection and bought insulated 4" duct. Just be sure that whoever installs these attaches the duct first as installing afterward may be impossible. On a home with an exhaust fan near the edge of a vaulted ceiling there may not be enough room to make the change. My master bath had two exhaust fans with one near the wall. I eliminated that one and went with a higher CFM (cubic feet per minute) exhaust fan for more flow to make up the difference. If you aren't a DIY kind of person you'll need a handyman to install the new fans. These look GREAT with my new roof!

Nice Quality
I installed two of these and am very satisfied with the function and quality. The screen seems to be well secured with the existing screw so I did not make any modifications as others have described.

Good quality
Bought two of these for roofing company to install with new roof. Good quality and would like to see a bit longer 4” neck protruding into attic as it would be easier to attach vent hose. I’ll add an extension
