Adjustable lighting on a timer
Our original aquarium lids had built in LED lighting, but over time moisture caused the LEDs to fail. This time I wanted lighting that was separated from the water to eliminate this risk. While I haven't even started to investigate the full features of this lighting rig, there is a control box which allows you to set 3 levels of lighting, day, night and off, and a timer for when each switches over. Light increases slowly over about 5 minutes for the day period, and you can set the light intensity maximum, night is a soft blue, again on a timer. The fish seem to like it, and being able to dial down the intensity makes them less skittish, and the plants are growing well.

Initial thoughts
Bought this light based on previous reviews. So far I really like this light. Low profile and lightweight and easy to install on the aquarium. Very good lighting but can get almost too bright if you don’t program. The programming can be a little confusing. Turned to YouTube to figure it all out but currently working very good. I’ve had this light now for 30 days so things could change but for now I would recommend this light to anyone.

Bright!! Programmable
Love this light. Super bright and easy to program! This light covers every inch of my 75-gal tank. White during the day and blue for a couple hours in the evening. The blue really settles down the African Cichlid's. Great price

Love it!
Great, effective, nice looking light that really brightened up my aquarium compared to the lighting I had previously. My only reason for taking away one star is the timer/remote is a little difficult to understand and could be easier to program. But I love the timer that has regular daylight and then kicks on the moonlight afterwards. With the options to turn off/on, higher/lower and different tones. For the price especially, I’d definitely recommend this light!

Best light - I'm up to 4 of them!
Awesome light! I bought the 42W for my 75g. It gets super bright which is great for making sure my carpeting plants get plenty of light. The different colors are nice to play with, but the DIY settings are what really make this thing so great. I can get the exact brightness and color tone I want throughout the day to make my fish and plants really stand out. The controls are a little cumbersome at first and it takes maybe five minutes to figure it out, but once you pick it up it's fine. Some comments are saying that if the power goes out or if you unplug it that you have to redo all the settings - that's not true, you just have to reset the clock, the DIY settings are stored.1 year update: I like this light so much, I've since gotten the 18W and their 10W submersible light. The control on the 42W recently started acting up where the DIY mode didn't automatically switch from the last stage to the first stage. It was minor but I emailed Hygger anyway - they sent me a whole new 42W replacement. Brand new. No cost. Took maybe a week start to finish. It's the best light and the best customer service. Every tank I own will have a Hygger light.

A very good light
It’s altogether very easy to program, though can be a bit confusing at first. I previously had an older Hygger model and replaced it with this after it was showing signs of failing. This hg999 is a much needed improvement. I wasn’t expecting it to be half as wide as the older lamp. A major plus. And wow is it bright! I love the greater variety of colors possible and the various options for programming. I have it set on diy mode so the lamp simulates sunrise and sunset and then stays on 10% red overnight. It’s nicer on the eyes at night than blue light so it works out for everyone. I’m happy that, because the lamp is a lot wider and much brighter, the lighting is a lot more effective on my aquarium. I will look into getting a couple more of these for my other aquariums. (=

They need to make it user freindly.
NOT EASY TO DO THE SETTINGS, FOLLOWED DIRECTION AND WATCHED VIDEO. I DID IT STEP BY STEP, IT DIDNT WORK FOR ME. I JUST STUCK WITH SETTING I HAD.
