Finally a FM Transmitter that works.
I first purchased the Griffen RocketFM which was Terrible, if your considering that Transmitter I hope your planning on using it with a receiver with a big extendable antenna. I needed a FM transmitter that spans almost my entire 1/4 acre, or at least as far as my wifi coverage. I would assume im not alone, who wants to transmit to only 1 room or floor? unless you live in a Apartment, most people want the entire house and the backyard and detached garage or barn if you have one. I needed it for Basement coverage, Yard Coverage, and my detached Garage. "This just works!" just like the name says "Whole House", and although I didn't look for a clear frequency, I noticed as I drove in the frequency I initially tried actually has 2 neighbor stations ive never heard but as soon as I drive in my driveway this transmitter comes in over them just fine.It works in my Basement, It works in my yard for mowing the lawn, and works in my garage when im fixing the car all places I don't have a Internet Radio to listen to. Im using it with a ancient G4 Mac Mini running obsolete panther with VLC media player remotely managed by Vine VNC so it can run without keyboard or screen, doing the streaming powered by the Mac's usb and connected into the audio jack. All day long that Mac does that job of delivering Internet Radio to FM and AM. I already own the SSTran AM transmitter which if your looking for a AM transmitter to transmit to your old AM only tube radios that is what you want for entire house coverage. I knew it was possible to have entire house coverage since my AM transmitter was already doing it before I bought this FM transmitter. This is a great seller, I contacted them before I purchased this, since I was also considering the C Crane transmitter. The RocketFM transmitter was such a piece of junk and waste of valuable time, I was very leary and cautious purchasing another fm transmitter. But I took the chance with this seller, he assured me if it didn't work as great as advertised I could send it back, and when it costs this much you want to make sure it lives up to your expectations. The RocketFM transmitter I bought had no return policy, it ended up in my garbage along with some of my hair I pulled out trying to get it to work and I was out $40 and a entire day of trying to find a good frequency. This is a little more expensive then others but if you want one that works this is worth it, and with a return policy you have nothing to lose. I would have paid $200 for coverage of my entire property so this was still a deal.I am using the Antenna extension that comes with this that your advised not to if you live in the US. But I have a hard time believing anything powered by USB could be against the law no matter how long the antenna is. Its very interesting the Manual states depending on the station frequency you choose the longer or shorter length of antenna you need. I suppose to Radio experts this is not news, but im your average homeowner just trying to fill my property with internet radio, I didn't know that, Also interesting that the low end of the dial like 88.9 requires the longest length of Antenna and the higher numbers like 107.5 require less length. At least according to the manual, Im using all of it just to be on the safe side.As for Antenna setup Im using this in a 1 story Rambler in the farthest corner of the house away from Electrical lines and other electronics, I only have a nightstand in that corner bedroom. I picked this spot for my AM transmitter, which worked best for that. I have the Mac Mini on the floor, I have this Transmitter clipped to the back of the nightstand so its elevated about 2 1/2 feet from the floor. which is as far away as the audio jack will reach from the Mac to the Transmitter. I have the Antenna running from the Transmitter down through a hole in the floor I made for the Ethernet cable. I ran this Antenna through that hole and it almost reaches the basement floor. I think if you had a 2 story house you would want this in the Attic running down through the floors. Ive never been sure how to run Antenna but this seems to work great. In summary I hope this helps others, trying to get Internet Radio in the FM air. This is a great product, a great seller , worth every penny to me.

Range is non-existant, sound quality is horrible
Whoever says this thing is great has got to have no sense of audio quality. FM can sound pretty good if you're near a radio station's tower; I can be standing right next to this transmitter and still get scratchy, static-y audio when I know the audio source is battery-powered, strong, and clean from an mp3 player. Using the antenna extension didn't really help either. For $100+, I expected a higher quality of construction, but it is super-light cheap-feeling plastic for the whole thing. While this may be a plus for portability, even the mini-jack seemed like it had cheap construction (nickel-plating instead of gold-plated). Really disappointed with this, just wish I had the time to return it within the 30-day window.

Works really well, a lot of money for cheap build quality
I agree with the other reviews in that the product does work very well - I am using it to send audio to a vintage hi-fi that lacks modern inputs - the signal is very clear and volume / levels are quite strong so kudos there for a really well performing product. With that said I've gone with 4 stars as the build quality is lacking and makes me nervous given the very high price of this unit. I sucked it up and paid for it because I was confident (thanks Amazon reviewers!) it would work well. it does. But be warned this thing looks and feels like a 12 dollar item from a clearance bin somewhere. In my case I'm ok with it (crossing fingers it doesn't crap out on me) as it is sitting on a shelf and will never move. I am nervous about it's long term performance but that remains to be seen. It was at least comforting to hear of the good customer service so let's hope they back up their product if something does happen.

Not what you're looking for
I read some good reviews... and I read some bad reviews. Why didn't I believe the bad reviews?Out of the box, I could get it to transmit clear FM on an unused channel if there was no physical interference up to 10'. If a person stood in the line of site, it was horrible. If I went out of the room with the receiver, the static was beyond unbearable. My car in the garage immediately under the room with the Whole House FM Transmitter 2.0 could not pick up the signal at all. I use my car's FM for radio every day, for reference. There is an additional antenna that comes with it. It says it's illegal to attach it in the US. I figured this was completely unusable in it's stock condition, so I added it to test it briefly. I could get a signal from my car now, but there was still too much static to make it enjoyable at all. And the handheld receiver started breaking up very badly when I went to other rooms or downstairs. Maybe US FM restrictions are so strong that you can't have a decent transmitter in your house legally. And that's why this isn't even a decent transmitter... I don't know.TL;DR: This is not a whole house transmitter, it is not even good at one room. Do not buy. Two stars because it transmits at all. Returned product.

Failed after 2.5-y use
Operated as advertized. It needed an extended antenna wire to reach a receiver 50-ft away. The display was quite hard to read in dim light. The audio modulation quit after 2.5-y use, however the carrier remained. An amazon search indicated cheaper (but not battery-operated) equivaldents) as "SainSonic 0.5W Long Range (10km) Dual Mode Stereo Broadcast FM Radio Transmitter *Fashion Black*".
