The Best Thing For Heating Water Fast
Ovente KS96S Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle really surprised me when I discovered how much I love it. I was having a hard time deciding which electric kettle I wanted. What I wanted was something that would match my kitchen decor and actually work well.I wasn't familiar with Ovente so I was a little hesitant about getting it since reviews seem to be mixed. But, I really liked how it looks, threw caution to the wind, and bought it. It turned out to be an excellent choice! This kettle fits my needs perfectly.I've been using Sunbeam Hot Shots to heat my water for decades. It seems the older ones would last forever but the newer ones have something go wrong with them within a year. The last one broke when I depressed the lever to let the water out and it snapped off. Huh? Granted they will heat your water a couple minutes faster but it's not a positive thing to have each one you buy last a year or less. I was going to get another one and decided to at least browse the electric kettles first. For only $5 more than the Hot Shot I was able to buy this beauty. There's never a puddle of water on the counter that leaks out like with the Hot Shot. I love how the inside lights up blue while the water heats. The blue light goes out once the water boils and the kettle turns itself off. I've enjoyed turning off the light in the kitchen at night just because the blue light is so cool and when the water starts to get hot then go into a boil it's just the neatest thing to watch. New toy!It does take a little longer for the water to get hot than with the Hot Shot but, it is faster than heating water on the stove and you can heat up more than 2 cups of water I was limited to with the hot shot. When I need boiling water for a recipe or to boil vegetables, noodles, or pasta on the stove, I heat it up in this kettle first. Helps get food cooked a little faster.I even heat my water in this electric kettle then put it in my espresso machine to get my high test java moving faster for my morning caffeine wake me up ASAP. Putting already boiling hot water into the espresso machine gets that steam moving much faster so it doesn't take long to have a stream of espresso falling into your cup or mug.A few days I week I'll opt for making coffee with my French Press. Once again, my electric kettle gets that water boiling fast and perfect for extracting fine flavor from my freshly ground coffee beans. My favorite use is to quickly heat up water for tea. After my morning java jolt, I drink tea all day. So morning till bedtime, this electric kettle is doing right by me. And I LOVE it!

Reliable and aesthetic - Or Not
Followed instructions and cleaned it before use. I then filled to max, brought to boil, and discarded 3 times. Then I tested the water for flavor. It was just like water. No off taste. It's been great for the several months I've been using it. I bought this unit because I didn't want a high wattage kettle. My last kettle was a different maker and design. It had a cap on top that you pull off to fill the kettle, and the carry handle arched over that cap. This was painful if the contents were hot. Also, if the top wasn't put on tightly, it would fall off while pouring the water, so the steam would burn your hand. Lastly, it developed a leak from the switch, which was mounted on the bottom. The Ovente kettle has none of these problems. It boils a full kettle in 9.5 minutes, which is fine with me. The top works well so far, and my hand is safety away from any steam when it is opened. A couple items that can be improved: (1) the screen in the spout is not removable. I liked this feature of my last kettle because it was easy to clean. It is not removeable in the Ovente, but I'm not sure this is a big deal yet. (2) the top inside of the handle gets very warm (perhaps hot) when a full pot of boiled water is gradually poured out. (3) Steam escapes through the spout during boiling. This did not happen with my last kettle, presumably because of the screen design. Escaping steam is a problem if the kettle is under a low cabinet or other item, such as for me. Overall - we like this kettle and recommend it.Feb 2022 Update: A week after I wrote the positive review above, I noticed small rust spots inside on the bottom. I called Ovente. They said NOT TO USE vinegar to remove scale, although their instructions say to do it. The person said to try cream of tartar. I assume they either don't use quality stainless inside or they have poor quality checks of the steel. Either way, they did not replace the unit. I switched to simply using a sponge to remove what comes off and that works well enough.

Watch out for the brown rust that builds up... after only 6 months of use.
This thing was awesome... for 6 months. This is my 4th electric tea kettle, though my first time buying an Ovente. Usually they last 3 or 4 years. This Ovente only made it 6 months.Regarding the white buildup at the bottom of the kettle; all kettles do it. It is mineral deposits from your water. Its easy to remove, simply boil a little vinegar (a half a cup or so) in with some water. make sure you have enough water in it to cover the inside of where the white buildup reaches. Then rinse it out after heating the water/vinegar up. Its easy, and harmless. I have done this with all of the kettles I have bough, a variety of different brands.HOWEVER... rust began to build up about a month ago. Red/brown rust around the top. This is not something that can/ nor should/ be removed with vinegar. If the rust was not bad enough, the last time time I turned it on I began to smell a potent aroma of plastic burning. It was awful. Fuguring it was the base of the kettle that was making the smell, I stupidly I took a drink of my tea anyway.. and yes my tea tasted horrifically disgusting... like burnt plastic.Regarding the warranty, there is no phone # on the website, only an email. I emailed them a week ago... still waiting to hear back. I will gladly update my review to a higher start count assuming they correct this issue. I see they have a glass kettle version I may try, if they refund me for this rust-filled fire hazard.
