A terrific mouth guard -- even my dentist was impressed
I first bought these mouth guards in 2018 and have been using them ever since. I began using them because the grinding I was doing at night was causing chips and damage to my molars that required filling and eventually an expensive implant, but since I started using them I've had no more problems with my back teeth at all. When I took my guards to my dentist for cleaning he said it was the best mouth guard product he'd seen, and actually asked me for a pointer to where they could be purchased. The photo here shows the three night guards I use:- The original full-size mouth guard I made in 2018- A medium-sized mouth guard I recently made to replace the one I wear the most often (which was still working but getting discolored and starting to wear from my canines pressing into it night after night)- A small simulated "NTI night guard" for when I want something less obtrusiveI find the medium size is the most comfortable, and it still prevents my molars from coming close to one another even though they're outside the guard (and this is true of all three of these guards). Each of these fit me like a glove -- I can actually hold my mouth open and they won't fall off.Fitting definitely requires some patience and technique, but if you follow the instructions carefully you should be fine and you'll get the hang of it as you go. The important part is to press the guard to the teeth VERY firmly as you suck all the moisture and air out of your mouth, moving your fingers and thumbs all around the outside of the guard to create a good impression of your teeth. You should also repeat the warm water dunk and the remolding of the guard 2-3 times to get it nice and snug. Finally, don't skip the step about pressing the sides in as you dip the guard in cold water -- that's what makes it hold on to your teeth. And all of this is stated in the instructions, by the way.I'd definitely recommend these to anyone, especially for the price (which is actually lower now than when I bought them 6 years ago!).

Good value...but read the directions closely before you start!
These ProDental anti-grinding guards cost about the same (for a package of three!) as a single one at typical drug store prices. Yet these are better, in my experience. I've tried several from the drug store, including the ones you put in hot water, but even the ones that are supposed to conform to your teeth after heating yield mediocre results. These, however, provide a more custom fit and unlike most of the others, these fully cover your teeth (making them suitable for teeth whitening as well). There is one down side, for which I deducted a star: The molding process is a little tricky...it seems like there's a bit of an art involved with getting it to work exactly as intended. Hence the directions are ridiculously long -- a full, single-spaced 8" x11" page, plus part of the back of a page, is devoted to explaining exactly how to properly heat, mold, and cool these so you'll get good dental impressions and a retentive fit. I read the directions fully through before starting, and I followed them closely, yet my first attempt didn't work out so well. The directions do note that you can start over and re-mold one if you mess up, and I tried that, but it did not work.I get the feeling that the reason these come three to pack is that the first one is your practice run or your "freebie"...and you then still have two left (one for upper and one for lower). In my second attempt, I managed to do everything right and got a really good impression, good coverage, and a good fit. Doing the mold on the bottom teeth was slightly more difficult, but by that point, I had the feel of it.You have to be careful not to keep these in the hot water too long or they'll really curl over and the sides will stick to each other. On the other hand, if you under-heat, you won't get a good impression.I spent about an hour on the process to do all three, winding up throwing out the first attempt. But...for the price...I now have really well-fitting upper and lower mouth guards. I do also use these for carbamide peroxide whitening and they do well for that purpose. Are these as good as spending $65 to $100 on a putty mold kit that you send in to a lab to make the mouth guards? No, definitely not. But they ARE considerably better than the common drug store products, some of which simply don't fit well and are not very useful for whitening. So for $15-$20, these are worth trying. Plus, they offer good support if you run into problems.
