So much more than I expected
I have and have had a couple of Kukri's but had never had an "Authentic" Kukri from South Asia. I figured it was time and since I already had a 11.5 inch kukri from an American Manufacturer I thought I would try the 8" from GK&CO as it would be more handy when backpacking or hiking. The price was right, it came with Amazons return policy so what did I have to lose.It is indeed a handy size. More a large knife than a traditional kukri and moves around in the hand wonderfully. It feels much lighter than a scale would leave you to believe. THe large flair at the rear really locks it in place while swingingI was really surprised at the fit and finish. I really expected something much more raw and fully anticipated having to do some work before it might be ready for use. I had seen other Kukri's online for South Asia that looked ROUGH. Not here. The blade actually came nice and sharp right out of the box. I mean "slash through the edge of paper sharp." Me being somewhat insane I put it to a soft polishing wheel for 2 minutes and the edge was scalpel sharp. Awesome! I bought a well known kukri after seeing it on the show "Alone" and it was a dog and came duller than a shovel and wouldn't take an edge. This bad boy from GK&CO was SHARP and a little touch on a wheel with some rouge and it was incredible. Easily shave hair. I then went out and hung some 3/4 diameter rope from a tree limp out back and the Kukri sailed through it with no issue. SO my initial concern of lousy heat treat and bad profile were gone. Blade was good to go.Fit and finish .. I really thought here is where I would see the fail. NOPE. The knife comes loaded with GOOP so it doesnt rust and smells like something used in automobiles. . Once cleaned off I could see that the wood was beautiful and had a great figure. I finished cleaning it off and polished the wood and blade with some mineral oil on a rag. Now the wood really popped. There were no gaps and the brass pommel and brass ahead of the grip were fitted nicely.Since a knife of this size is a do it all for camping or hiking I decided to put it to some kitchen tasks and cut up potatoes for Mashed potatoes and carrots for another meal. As thick as the blade is you would think it would be awful and while it is not a kitchen knife .. it was really excellent for the task.I also took a few hacks at a tree branch and an old hard 2x4 and it bites into the wood. Its not full size but it will better at this than any large knife. Did a little shaving with a it as you might with a wood working draw knife and with the Kukri's natural curve it was awesome for the task if you were away from other tools. So far .. thrilled with the purchase. It is a stick tang so I don't plan on a bunch of battoning or other such tasks but plan more for it to be used as a BETTER replacement for a large knife. Happy .. at this price .. buy one.Be sure to give it a good once over before you call it good though. I went ahead and bought their WWII version to have the larger one and did unfortunately have an issue but that review is under my wifes account since she bought it as a Christmas gift.

Unexpectedly handy size in a pretty well-made kukri
I'd already purchased the 10.5" Service 1 Kukri from GK&CO and was impressed with the build quality, though that knife was a bit heavier than I'd expected at 19oz due to having a 3/8" thick spine at the hilt, so I figured I'd try out a smaller version. I'm glad I did. This kukri is 3/8" thick like the other, but is closer to 1 pound in weight, and feels very handy and responsive. Balance point is right on the inner curve. In many ways it is a scaled-down version of the Service 1, with a polished flat-sided blade with a 1/2" wide 25 degree edge bevel and brass fixtures, though this one has a much more ornate fuller and a rosewood handle instead of horn (I prefer the feel and grip of the rosewood). The sheath is nicely done, though the Karda and Chakmak are almost too small to make much use of (1.5" vs 2" blades on the larger models) but the Karda did come sharp. Fit and finish is overall excellent. I'm really enjoying this knife, and love how it handles. It may not be as useful for bigger chopping tasks, but it might be a handier all-around knife for me. I'm re-discovering my appreciation for the kukri.

Excellent quality very sharp.
This will be perfect for the bushcraft bag. Very well made and feels good in the hand. Sharp as well should hold up well to bushcraft use.
