US Military Sleeping Bag Compression Stuff Sack for MSS, Black

This item arrived in the estimated shipping time and arrived without issues. The item was packed adequately to avoid damage in transit and arrived undamaged. The compression sack was exactly as described with no holes, rips, tears, or stains evident. All the straps and buckles were intact and worked perfectly. The excellent design of this bag allows you to compress the contents from all directions in both girth and length so you can get maximum compression for space savings. It is made of heavy nylon that will last a lifetime with proper care and will protect the contents well from field hazards such as thorns. The only weakness in the system is the loading opening where you place the items into the sack, which is secured with a cord lock device. Under a large load and while compressing it there is a possibility the cord lock might slip and the closure might open. This is easily solved by putting a half hitch in the cord once it is cinched shut so no slack runs through the cord lock. As an added bonus, the heavy nylon material acts as an additional layer of protection to keep your sleeping bag dry. I would recommend this item to anyone trying to manage a sleeping system while carrying it into the field.

This was exactly what I wanted, and very inexpensive. Material feels thick/durable, bag is very large, and compresses to however small you want it to be. The opening isn't the compression-style cover like some more expensive backpacking bags, but it still has a flap under the drawstring. Should be perfect since I'm not going to throw it in a lake lolWith the size of this thing. I can roll up my standard sized sleeping bag AND my closed-cell sleeping pad to throw in here. Works very nice, and I just strap this to my molle assault pack.Also need to add that mine came looking brand new. Some reviews talk about this being surplus, but I didn't think it was? Either way the one I got was mint condition

The image on the Amazon page for this item is not what you will receive. I had a compression sack for my MSS and lost it. I paid 41.00 plus to replace it here. I got a thin nylon bag (black) with five vortical compression straps (very thin) only. I am really disappointed but I see it did come from New York, I should have known better.

This bag was exactly what I wanted and needed. I am a firefighter and I get transferred around my city a lot. I keep a set of bed linen in my truck and it takes up a lot of room. Previously I'd used a mesh equipment bag. This was bulky and allowed my items to get soiled, so I couldn't put them anywhere but the back seat.I found this sack which seemed to be large enough to fit my needs. It's a tall order though. I have a twin comforter, set of sheets, blanket, and standard sized pillow. This is not a small pack of gear. In order for this to work I needed the gear to fit, be compact enough to be worthwhile, and the sack needed to be strong enough to withstand the pressure.When it arrived I had my doubts, in fact I didn't think I'd even be able to get my gear in there. It was literally 10lbs of crap going into a 5lb bag.....volume wise anyway. Well I rolled everything together into as tidy a bundle as I could. I didn't try to do too much with the bundle. Part of my concern is that the bag needs to do it's job and if its too complicated I won't want to use the setup.Well, I'd read somewhere that the best way to fill a compression sack was to not even bother folding the contents too much. You just need to stuff, push and rotate until everything is in. Amazingly, without too much effort I was able to get everything inside....it was already pretty cool...but it got better.This bag has 6 vertical straps and 3 horizontal. It also has a cinch strap around the top. I was able to cinch down the top, then start tightening the straps to compress everything. By the time I was done, the bag was about the size of two basketballs...maybe smaller. Compressed, neat, and easily stored anywhere I need to in a tidy package. I have had it for a month now and it stands ready for me whenever needed. The straps and compactness of it all make it easy to carry and to even attach other gear to if I need.I have three complaints and those are why I docked this bag 1 star. I love it so much I wanted to wrap them into 1star....but they still need to be discussed. One is the cinch strap. It uses a typical clasp to lock the strap into place. Unfortunately it isn't strong enough to grip the string tightly. The force of the gear inevitably pushes the clasp about 5" or so and the gear starts to push out. The hole at the top of the bag is barely smaller than the bag....which means it could be useless in my situation. I don't need my gear exploding out and I want to keep them clean.Another problem...that compounds the first is the covering at the opening of the bag. This is simply a small flap on the inside. You're supposed to cover the gear and the cinch will keep the flap tightly covering your items. The flap is too small though and mixed with the inadequate cinch it doesn't work.I got around both of these issues by using a 6 foot nylon strap with a buckle. I intertwined the strap through the other straps so it becomes part of the system. I wrap it vertically....or the long way around the bag so it goes around the top. Once it's clasped I cinch it down just like the other compression straps. This keeps the top held tightly together with the flap covering my gear like it's supposed to.I have a sleeping bag compression sack that has an outer cover that goes completely around and over the open end. Then it buckles into the system. This is the type of cover system a bag of this size, build, and cost should have. My system works...but I was disappointed I had to fix the design.Finally....the cost is a bit much. I'd buy it again and it shouldn't be a deterrent. However, $40 seems like a lot for what this is. It's good quality, but doesn't seem to be made of anything special. The material reminds me of any typical gym bag and then it's just some nylon buckle straps sewn in. I would have expected a better top cover system for this premium price. I have about 16 years left on the job...if it lasts that long the $40 is nothing and I'll be more than happy.This was a good purchase.

Update: ordered two more compression sacks 12-2019, again delivered new with tags. No issues with the compression sacks. This is the perfect compression sack for the Wiggys super light zero degree sleeping bag. Even with this compression sack putting a Wiggys super light into the compression sack is like wrestling with an alligator. Packs nice and compact (for a Wiggys bag) that says a lot for the compression sack.I needed two compression sacks for my spare MSS's, was not interested in obtaining used or broken gear. The compression sacks arrived sealed in bags with original tags. Could not be happier with the purchase and delivery was fast. Buy these compression sacks with confidence!

Too many compression straps make this thing a bit of a pain to use. There are straps hanging everywhere. I guess there are people who want that, but wouldn't 2-4 straps have been enough?The material is thin and I doubt it could take much abuse. But I won't be using it anyway since my sleeping bag will not fit into this bag. I'll just cut off the straps and use it for pillows I take camping.

This is the compression sack for the military issued black sleeping bag with green inner liner, which means it's big enough for just about any sleeping bag you need to compress. Mine showed up looking new. All straps were in good condition and sewn off properly. And after I stuffed my sleeping bag (with liner) into it, it compressed just fine. I was able to crank on the straps without busting any seams or tearing straps from the bag.
