This title is excellent. It has great step by step overviews of how to set up an environment for learning SSRS, and the exercises have all been thoughtfully assembled in an easy to download zip file. I found that I was able to quickly understand what I was doing easily. The text does not assume the reader is strong in SQL queries, but it does assume that you will either grasp the concepts quickly or be able to use the wizards to write targeted SQL queries. Knowledge is acquired by repeating the same actions a few times, then building on those conceptual ideas with new and fresh challenges in the material.I often find myself wishing that Microsoft Licensed VM images of its Windows OS and other projects for the sake of learning tools to avoid lengthy setups. Despite these challenges the setup of SQL Server and SSDT were very thoughtfully thought out with great step by step instructions aimed at a novice user. Overall I found the hardest challenge was knowing where to click on chart objects to find the right contextual chart menu. I found that if I clicked on the drop-down in "properties" to select an object I had a bit easier of a time. I also found that the SQL query syntax is just too small to read and is hard to code - These are all inherent issues in SSRS and Brian's book makes it a point to really learn these quirks and to see the code that should exist and to query accordingly. I'd recommend this title to anyone.

Revised My Review Up - here's why..
I've updated my review after an initial frustration: The resource file for this book had yet to be made available by the publisher... BUT the AUTHOR stepped in and STEPPED UP after reading my review here and worked with publisher to make the materials available. I am a 3rd of the way through the book and find it the best SSRS book (have been through 3 and a user of SSRS since its inception. I bought the book to refresh my knowledge and introduce me to NEW features of SSRS for 2016. I have not gotten to the new feature examples yet so I cannot comment on those. the author does a good job of providing examples for for both SSDT/VS IDE or the Report builder suite. I use Visual Studio but read the RB suite tips also as I use that suite in a production integrated SharePoint environment. ..

Kindle version does not use page numbers - referencing impossible
The book is amazing, I really do love this author, but the kindle version of this book is just dreadful. Maybe it's just the Kindle app but this Kindle book does not use page numbers opting instead to use "Location" whatever that means. Every page ranges arbitrarily from 2-8 "locations" and makes referencing by page completely impossible. Apparently this book has 14965 "locations".I got this book for a class and I cannot use it for homework because my professor uses page references. It takes me several more hours to do homeworks because finding page 121 is an extremely time-consuming endeavour.Avoid the Kindle version of this textbook.

Just what I needed for new job duties
Bought this as I am new to SSRS, and was only the book I could find out there at the time. Read only about half of it, and then started playing on my own. Still use it from time to time as reference, and is always on my desk. Great thing to have if you are new to SSRS, and as I can see from websites, there is not much information out there for SSRS 2016 so this was a necessary purchase.

Good book to read
New book, but when packaged the inner pages where crunched. Better packing would be nice if placed in a larger box.

Great step-by-step-step walkthrough
This is a great book that breaks things down into three parts: the why, the how, and the delivery of reports. You learn to build and deploy reports in a step-by-step manner. Both with data tools and Report Builder. You will need some skills to set-up the environment, but most of this is explained well in the downloaded documentation and sample files.

Mostly good
Mostly good. Some of the solutions downloaded from the website don't work making it impossible to reverse engineer when you can't solve a problem. Its a good place to start if you have someone who can help you.
