Great book on Inventory Management and Optimization in SAP ECC
It's a surprise and a disappointment to find out that there is so much ‘hidden treasure’ of features and functionality in SAP ECC that aren’t either explored completely or aren’t used effectively. This leads to lower ROI from SAP investment and at the same time materials and inventory planners continue to work tirelessly to bring sanity to logistics and supply chain operations. The efforts, time and costs to develop various inventory reports significantly add to the costs of maintaining SAP system. The book “Inventory Management and Optimization in SAP ERP” explores and exposes inventory management’s latent features to show how so many of them can be put to better use for materials and inventory planning, management and optimization. From covering some of the common inventory management business processes to master data settings that control inventory business processes and finally an extensive list of reports, KPIs, analytics and several SAP add-ons (to address the current reporting limitations in SAP ECC) are all given significant coverage in the book.I received this book free from SAP PRESS as part of their book review program. I was not required to write a positive review, and the opinions I’ve expressed are my own.

Exceptional, practical and an eye opener.
It was with great attention and pleasure that I read this exceptional book that did not leave one single stone unturned within the field of sustained inventory management with SAP. In the initial chapters, the author/consultant guided me perfectly through the basic concepts in SAP which turned out to be primordial to grasp the details of the later chapters around Inventory Optimization and how to control, monitor and report in standard SAP. I encountered a load of tips and tricks to put into good use in my daily work, but more importantly, I enjoyed the level of detail about how to define replenishment strategies and the including MRP types. Way to often you are just familiar with the settings left after the implementation, I now realized there is much more to consider. To finalize, the chapter about standard SAP Add-on tools was a true eye opener as I have been experiencing those classical white spots in SAP for way too long. It came as a relief that today out of the box SAP solutions do exist for various challenges ranging from MRP data management and Safety Stock calculation to Inventory Optimization itself. All without any requirement for additional ABAP programming? Overall, a practical book that I would recommend to all interested.
