Q: What’s the weight limit?

I think the manufacturer specifies it around 250 lbs. . After installing and testing it I would add that to some extent the 'safe' weight limit will depend on the details of your wall anchoring. Concrete or brick walls offer great attachment stability, while dry wall attachment can be less stable, based on wall stud placement. Anchoring the horizontal attachment boards directly in two studs will be best, but their distance does not match the initial hole pattern from the manufacturer. So I drilled additional holes for that. My installation holds my weight well (180lbs) when using the vertical part of the ladder, but I am not comfortable putting my full weight on the 3rd (=front) bar of the forward extending top ladder portion.

Q: Could we modify this to fit our 82” ceiling?

Yes, you can. Just cut bottom. But I'm return it back because connected holes 🕳 was bigger then connector plugs. One piece of wood was cracked. I see it's problems just starting and I'm return it.
