Good quality, thick material
I hope never to test the intended purpose of these, but I think they are of high quality with a good design. The outer material feels thick and durable. The padding helps if you have to kneel (I did, on concrete). The 3 straps around the shin just barely fit around a Size 10 fireman's boot (bought at a yard sale). If I wore regular boots there would be extra strap, but it has Velcro to keep it from flapping. The thigh strap snaps easily - I have it just a hair loose. The belt folds and has snaps for short legged people like me. It unfolds up to sit high on the waist of long legged people. The snaps on the straps make it easier and faster to put on and take off than I realized at first - the fist time putting them on was a chore but I was adjusting things and learning what goes where. The easy on/off using snaps is encouraging me to put them on even for short chains saw stints. The wrap around calf is really nice on a cold day (38F) and gives me confidence when chain sawing as well as protecting from brambles. (But you still have to be careful and maybe a bit scared!!) i would buy again if they got stolen. (I do not want to test the safety functions. :)

Good coverage but heavy
These look like they will be durable, and provide very good coverage. They are several times heavier than the standard chaps they are replacing though. As such they pull down on my hips more than I'm used to. They are also a pain to put on, compared to my current standards chaps. This means I'll probably need to keep them on while I'm working. I could keep my old chaps handy and if I needed to grab the saw for quick cut while working in the woods it took seconds to don them. I've been wearing these around home while I'm working in the yard to see if I like them enough to keep them before I get them dirty. As mentioned by other postings, both legs are cut for the right leg instead of opposing. This means the buckles are harder to reach on one side. I do like the adjustable length with the waist band that rolls down about an inch and a half.Update: I wore these for 15 minutes while splitting wood in 80° weather and had to take them off. It's like wearing heavy insulated long underwear while physically active. I was in the act of returning them, but my wife insisted I keep them for when I'm cutting in cold Wisconsin weather. I went back and ordered a replacement pair of standard class B chaps for hot weather work. I neglected to mention that a previous Pair of chaps took a hit while I was clearing a safety zone around a tree. I never even felt it and wondered why my saw stopped so suddenly. There was about a 4" tear in the thigh region and the saw had stopped instantly with a load of fibers jammed in. I haven't cut without chaps in years and will never cut without them.

The good, the bad, and the not-ugly
Prior to buying these, I'd bought a pair of ZELARMAN Chainsaw Chaps Apron Wrap 8-layer for what I thought was the very good price of $53. Alas, while they seemed well made, the padded legs rotate outwards when you put them on, thereby protecting only the outside of one's legs and not the front and inner legs. Not good, so I sent them back and bought these, which have the advantage of wrapping completely around the lower leg and most of the upper leg, thereby staying in place. So, that's the GOOD, along with being pretty easy to put on and take off. The BAD? Man, they're hot. Granted, it's 80 degrees today and I'm in a breezeless swale in the woods. I thought I'd melt, so after a half hour, off they came. I think they'll be fine in autumn weather (50s and 60s), and really great in the winter. But in the summer I'll have to stick to my heavy duty KickAss jeans with the double fronts on the legs. The NOT-UGLY refers to the fact that they are very seriously well-constructed and look pretty darn good for the amount of padding. One does look a bit over-dressed, I suppose, but not as bad as the kid in "A Christmas Story."

Works as advertised!
So, to start, these are pretty comfy, honestly I like the tight feel around calves knowing that the 3 safety clips are secured well. Great pocket for files, tensioner, and if you need it, an extra chain. The pocket can be loaded from the top and opens via buttons on the bottom. So to the works as advertised…. It stopped that chain from ripping into my upper thigh. After cutting for roughly ten hours, I had made the mistake and did not disengage the chain break/clutch and it came to rest on my thigh… not a full speed, thank God, but enough to make the saw cough and die from the sudden stop. Only 4 or 5 actual tears into the fabric but it did not shred, come apart, or cords of the pants to come out. It is strong material. Recommended to my father who was also an arborist.

bought them alittle too long
but love them. Cut 300 cords a year. Great coverage for safety. I'm 5'11'.....bought the 40" ones to cover my toes.....coulda gone alittle shorter., but love them.

Thick and not perfect but ok
Got these after seeing a scar on a coworker’s leg where a saw caught his non wrap around chaps and flipped them to the side. The stitching appears of good quality and the material is thick. It appears that they used the same pattern for both legs so the left leg closers are to the inside and the right leg to the inside of your leg. This makes them a bit awkward to get on and I’d expect better for almost $90. But the buckles are strong plastic and have a Velcro patch to hold the extra down which is nice. They also have thigh straps that keep the chaps tight to your body. I wish they had a slightly shorter leg length available, I’m pretty short and wear 29 length pants and these have quite a bit of extra bunched at my thighs but should work fine.
