I struggle with a panic disorder and some generalized anxiety. Nothing knocks down a panic attack or protects against a panic trigger (e.g. a big meeting etc.) like a prescription benzodiazepine, but I treat my Xanax as a last resort; benzos can be habit forming if relied upon too much, and I don't like how it kind of ruins the rest of your day with drowsiness after it wears off. It's a safety net only, so I've been trying various herbal approaches for anxiety. Of the many I've experimented with (as responsibly as possible, with ample research and a reasonable understanding of mechanisms of action), only a few have had an appreciable effect for regular daytime use for me: 1) L-Theanine (Suntheanine brand), which is potentiated by caffeine (so with morning coffee) provides some impressive, though subtle, calming of the brain for a whole day. 2) Dopa Mucuna (velvet bean, which contains a LOT of the neurotransmitter dopamine) has a noticeable calming and mood-stabilizing effect that isn't too obtrusive or foggy and does "feel good", but it's no panic superhero. The list goes on... (5-HTP, GABA, mood/stress proprietary blends etc), I've tried a few, and they have their strengths and weaknesses for me. Then I looked into Ashwagandha and got this brand from Amazon (reviews led me to this particular brand). Yowza! The effect is hard to describe; There's no euphoria, but it seems to strip away any dysphoria (even if it's the kind that's just always kind of been there) and leaves a feeling of well-being. Sometimes it's fun to feel a little high from some of these supplements, but sometimes you would like to find something that leaves you clear and just sort of fixes what's broken. I think this is it. Hence ashwagandha earning the moniker "adaptogen", the mysterious effect of "smart-correcting" what's off in your chemistry. So far, about 2 weeks in, taking it every other or every 3rd day for reference, ashwa seems to replace my fragile fight-or-flight tendency with a little bit of "IDGAF" and cool well-being. Zero drowsy, zero foggy, pretty transparent, just... confident. If you do your interwebs research, you'll find that there are no known health risks and it may have physiological benefits beyond mood modification. Secret pro-tip: It also seems to ameliorate to the dysphoria associated with a hangover. (Try it w/Advil for the ouchy part). Do your research, read more reviews, and give it a try if you think it's a fit. Personally, after experimenting with quite a few supplements, this is the one that blows me away. As with any herbal supplement, please be careful, check for any interaction advice or relative contraindications, and give yourself breaks from the supplement (cycle on/cycle off) to avoid any tolerance build-up, and also to check in on your baseline chemistry. I bought it to help with stress and anxiety ,I entered the phase of peri- menopause and my anxiety went to the roof , with horrible hot flashes , being irritable , crying constantly , very emotional and all this made me depressed. I have been taking this capsules for three days and I already feel a difference .. I just can't believe it !!!To good to be true , right ! I can only speak of my experience with it .My hot flashes are less , I am not crying as much as I was a few days ago ,my anxiety is not as intense , therefore I feel less depression , and I am not at the point of having those horrible panic attacks , like I said it has lessen my anxiety symptoms and my hotflashes , and I have only taken this for 3 days ..
