The Art of Tapestry Weaving: A Complete Guide to Mastering the Techniques for M

Great explanations!
I’ve been weaving for about 2-3 months, and borrowed a slew of books from the library. My first month of weaving this book was too detailed; I barely knew where to start or what was important to know. HOWEVER, now with two months of experience, I absolutely love and appreciate all the details. It explains things I’m seeing and perplexed about- such as why my diagonals are sometimes smooth, sometimes not (hills and valleys). It provides methods to correct when I feel deadended in the wrong shed. There’s a lot of material that isn’t covered in other books. I read and read in the ferry line overnight in Victoria, and barely even walked around the city, despite the lovely weather and setting! I ordered the book that evening. Clear photos, explanations and so well thought out. I’m thinking of signing up for her online tutorials, to get the “3D” version.

Best buy
This is the book to buy if you are starting to learn how to do woven tapestry. It covers all of the information required, there are no omissions. The text, illustrations and photographs are very clear. I really like the way examples of many well-known tapestry artists are used to show how the techniques can be developed further. Also, this book is a pleasure to use - it has solid covers and traditional binding which allow the pages to lie flat when you are working the samples. Not the cheapest book on the subject but certainly the best value for money.

No details on available tapestry weaving techniques
The description mentions the learning of Tapestry Teachniques. But the book contains no such things. You will be told about different loom, and which yarn to chose etc... But often it will not go into any details so you would be left with so many question. Nothing is really detailed. No techniques on different knots or how to get different rendering when doing tapestry (be it ancient or modern). There is also nothing new in this book. All the info can be found online.I do not find this book beginner friendly, yet very annoyign for someone intermediate too. As in, while it tries to teach you tapestry, you can see the person does not hav knowledge on how to teach. It tries to but fail to get to the point and you will want to fall asleep most of the time while reading. I felt I was going in circle. The books is not organized very well and the text contains a lot of repetition that goes around the subject without getting into it. It feels like the author wanted to stuff the books so it looks full of information, yet it does not and a lot of the content is "empty" words. The pictures are often very small and therefore you can't see the details of the tapestry. This does not teach you really to make your own tapestry but more present you to some basics in a very disorganized way and confusing way.I was recommended this book but I found it very hard to go through and read. I also am dissapointed what is described in description is not what is really talked about in the book. You would think with all the pages that you would learn so much but I did not learn anything from the book.Learning from a master weaver (with the actual title) or going online is a better approach.
