I think it should be made water proof and rechargeable but hey the price ain’t really bad or real good but it’sgood for the job I guess.

It might do the job...maybe
This detector is very easy to use. I set it at the least sensitive setting and proceeded to try and track down a small leak I've had on my A/C system for about a year. There is an audible 'beep' that increases in frequency as you wave the probe closer to the Freon leak. The instructions said the beep would change to a siren but it didn't, it just beeped faster. I tested the unit and it did alarm in the presence of Freon. The problem I had was that it was not consistent. It would alarm, I would pull the unit away, then I would re-introduce the probe to the same location and I would get no alarm. I did this several times on a few different locations and got the same results. I saw no signs of leakage in those locations. The detector also comes with a UV flashlight so if your A/C system has been recharged with Freon containing UV dye you can try to hunt down the leak that way. My system has never been recharged with UV dye so I couldn't test that feature.
