Creating The World We Want To Live In: How Positive Psychology Can Build a Brighter Future

"It is in your hands to create a better world" Nelson Mandela
We all know our world is screwed up and we want something better for our grandchildren - but at the moment it looks like they are going to inherit a worse world than we currently have. Most of us hardly know where to start in fixing it. The brave authors of this book have made that start through providing a blueprint for a better world. I love the way it's structured - I dived in to the chapters that I knew something about and found a brief summary of the science and the evidence arguing for well-being driven change followed by ideas for action by individuals, communities and governments. As a book it is incredibly ambitious in its scope but makes accessible some disciplines I knew little about. The authors admit that change is not easy but argue that it is not impossible. Now has never been a better time to press the reset button and create the world we want to live in.

Thoughtful, actionable, research-based ways to increase well-being beyond the individual
Most well-being literature is for individual self-help. This book is different. Written by several experts who are academics, researchers and, importantly, practitioners in psychology, it inverts the usual question, "How can you make your life better?" and instead asks, "How do we make the world better for all of us?" This is a big question that this relatively small book answers by exploring where things are already working, from schools, to health clinics, to work environments, to governments, to society at large. "Creating the World We Want to Live In" is full of proof that people are doing this. Recommended especially for school and community leaders, public policy activists, and government officials.

A collection of many well known facts
With a pricey tag for a paperback I was anticipating engaging reading. But the book turned to be very disappointing. One can read through this book in one day, diagonally. To me, the book reappeared a lot of known facts, with little practical advice how to implement recommendations. Also, it is richly spiced with leftist view and references. The verdict - pass and save your money.
