This is a beautifully organized, lovely book and the author is very talented both as an artist and a teacher. She shows you everything-- paint texture, color, technique and then there are gorgeous projects following-- I don't usually like painting books because there are so many videos but her instructions are really clear and I know I'll refer to them again and again. I WANT them on paper. Bravo, this book will be covered in paint in a year, I can tell!

There are numerous instructional gouache books out there. If you're new to gouache, you really should get an instructional book, whether this one or another.First off, I am the type of person who hates instructions and just bumbles along as best as I can. Usually everything works out okay. But I watched a few videos on YouTube, and I figured out written instructions, in this case probably wouldn't hurt. Do you know that gouache can become moldy? Yes, it can.For someone who generally suffers through instructions, this book is easy to follow and very helpful. I even ended up highlighting some advice given in the book.The reason I chose this book was because of its reviews and because it would arrive the fastest. And it was priced at a lower cost than the other recommended books.It was a good purchase.

I LOVE the current work by Ruth Wilshaw, but this book is more of a primer on painting with gouache. I should have read the description more closely. The book is great for those new to gouache, but doesn't feature any of Ruth's current style (glowing"illuminated" moss, mysterious caverns and waterfalls, etc.). However, the book does teach painting in multiple layers and how to paint silhouettes, and that's the basis of most of her work. Using the techniques in this book along with her YouTube tutorials is giving me the knowledge to attempt paintings in Ruth's style.

Well written book with great pictures and instructions on getting started with gouache. Ruth Wilshaw is a very talented gouche artist. She makes magical landscapes. I enjoy her website modern gouache and online tutorials. I decided to get her book in addition to the online tutorials and learned a lot and have enjoyed the exercises in the book.

I was disappointed that the quarto link to the templates didn’t work but I think I can save the image from the book to my phone and create the template from that. She is very talented and has wonderful techniques and projects!!

This book is truly great. I received the book promptly after the pre-order date so I can get the bonus digital content. The artist/author was equally as prompt to respond to my email, to provide the relevant information to access the bonus content.The quality of the book is truly excellent. The artist really did a great job choosing the right materials for the finish product. This book has a soft cover but it has a smooth matte finish & the pages are semi gloss and not flimsy but sturdy so it won't tear easily. The print colour is perfect especially for an art book.Miss Ruth, truly put alot of effort into making this book it's definitely well thought out. I always loved gouache paint especially when used in certain styles and I never came across any content that showed how to get this specific technique down perfectly. I am confident that I will definitely be able to soon paint with gouache in the style I love & admire... to portray that magical vivid aspect of gouache.I also, purchased Miss Ruth's Domestika gouache course to give me that extra content to get it definitely right. You won't regret getting this book if this is the style of gouache you are looking to learn this is the book & artist to have as a great guide. I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to explore gouache paint! It is hard to find books on gouache and I have bought several. I found this book to be more useful, covering more techniques, and giving detailed instruction with lots of photos than other books on the subject. Ideal for beginners and more advanced artists. I purchased the kindle edition and was very happy with my purchase.

first off this book is so beautiful! This is a very thoughtful and well written intro to gouache. Def recommend
