Received with No Box Update
Update: Returned and ordered an 8. Came with box this time. The 8.5 was a Made in USA with pull tabs and the 8 is Made in Mexico. I prefer the fit of the 8 and don’t need the pull tabs so keeping them. The leather is more marbled in the size 8. My calf circumference is 14.25-14.5 and I have room for jeans and socks.I ordered these in an 8.5 and they are a little big. I have Fryes in both 8 and 8.5 so this isn’t a big deal to return and get an 8. The bigger issue I have is the boots arriving without a box, with generic inserts, and just wrapped in plastic. Is this normal? For $500 boots, I keep them in the box when not in use and have never not received a box.

Beautiful Boots update
I have a 10 pairs of Frye boots and have always wanted a pair of the campus.,so I did it. I purchased my true size and they are pretty stiff but exceptionally made. True Frye with the stitching, wonderful construction and delicious leather smell. It will take some effort to break in but willing to put in the work for these beauties. I have about an 1 1/4 at toe box of room and the width I would say is true to normal. You will need to go to cobbler to PNW them from the wetness but I have done this to all my shoes from Frye and they all are in immaculate condition. So do it . I purchased to blk and I love them. The seller Outdoor Equiped had them to me 4 days early and the boots were packaged great . I trust this seller .Now I’m gonna be new boot goofin 😜

Little disappointed
I was disappointed at first because these are $500 boots and they came without the original box, they came in a regular brown box, and around the Frye logo they had a square of ink, which I learned it’s because they are handmade likely just a heat transfer outline from the metal stamping plate. it’s more visible on light leather. The boots are beautiful so I will keep them.

Frye Campus Boot
The boots are beautiful, exactly what my daughter wanted. Unfortunately she wears a size 9-9.5, but also has very slim legs, so the boots looked enormous on her. I think the calf circumference increases with each half size, but that was not in the details. Since she had plenty of foot room in the 9.5, we are going to try ordering an 8-8.5, to see if they are slimmer through the calf. Fingers crossed!

Large-calved girls, don't lose hope!
I could barely contain myself waiting for these to arrive, so was absolutely crushed when I couldn't get the narrow shafts over my 16" calves. The Amazon description said these were a 16" shaft circumference, but on my size 7 pair it was more like 14.5" for the outside dimension. I was pretty sure I was going to have to return them, but decided to take them to the cobbler first to get his opinion. To my delight, he said no problem stretching them out almost a full 2"! It added $50 to the price of these already pricey boots, but I just couldn't find another pair that seemed comparable in quality, and all of the "extended calf" Frye boots would be too tall on my 5' 3" frame. So I took them out of the box again and for the first time noticed that one boot shaft is noticeably taller than the other one, something I've read about in other reviews. But since the foot bed was a spot-on perfect size 7 on this pair, I was afraid of getting into a never ending loop of returns and replacements… what if the next pair they sent were too narrow or short in the foot bed? What if I got another pair of even more mis-matched shaft heights? I decided I could live with the uneven shafts and that it wouldn't be that noticeable while wearing them. One other concern I have is that they'll be too tall on me. Since I couldn't pull them up all the way, it's hard to tell where they'll "sit" once they're stretched. My cobbler told me he can shorten the shafts if need be, but I'm going to wait and see. But it's such a relief to know that a good cobbler can make these work for me. I died a little inside when I had to consider I might never get to own a pair of Frye's.I knocked a star off for the uneven boot shafts, because seriously, when you pay this much for boots you'd expect better craftsmanship, but otherwise they are absolutely beyond gorgeous and they smell like heaven. I can't wait to get them back from the cobbler's!

Love these boots
I'm so glad I bought these boots! After months of research, I finally decided on Frye Campus to replace my favorite (quickly dying) boots. They are classy enough to go well with both casual and dressed-up outfits, and sturdy enough that I don't have to worry about buying a new pair next year. These are my all-purpose boots: I wear them around town, as well as on-the-job as a photographer and web designer when meeting with clients. They are subtly western.Surprises:-The toe isn't as square as it looks in the photo, but I'm perfectly happy with the mostly-round toe.-If you buy Dark Brown Soft Vintage, the shade is a bit darker than what it appears in the photo, especially in the shaft of the boot. I bought DBSV, despite wanting a different shade, because it was on sale, so I was glad that it turned out to be a darker brown than it appears in the photo. You should know:-Out of the box, these boots are straight up-and-down, just as they appear in the photo. At first I felt like I was wearing rain boots, which I didn't like. But after a week or two of wear, the ankles began to settle and get the crumpled, worn look of western boots, which I love.-When you first try these on and walk around, the heel of the boot will drop to the ground before your foot does. You will get used to that--it's not a problem, it just feels like one at first.-Buy 1/2 a size down. My perfect size is 8.5, so I bought 8 and they fit perfectly.-Take care of your leather! Buy a conditioner and a high-quality weather proofing spray if you want these babies to last. Also be sure to have a cobbler fit a half-sole on the front of the boot and replace the heel rubber when it wears down.Hope this review helps.
