I passed, and I’m a poor test taker!
The goal of this book is to prepare the reader to pass the Security+ exam, and it worked! This book is written well even for those who haven’t worked in cybersecurity (like I haven’t). It gives thorough explanations without being overwhelming.Practical examples throughout the book provide the “why,” “why not,” and “when” which I did not get from other popular books.Exam Tips are labeled as such and are in easy-to-spot boxes inside the reading.Chapter Review Questions are well written with detailed answers in the back of the book.Illustrations give visual reinforcement of text. White space is plentiful allowing for smooth flow and for easily spotting information when answering questions or reviewing. There is an excellent free Companion Website, too. It has a 12-week study guide, flash cards, labs, mock exams, PBQs, videos, etc.

Good, but it’s for the previous exam version
In general I do like this guide, the explanations and illustrations are helpful. But note that this book for the OLD version of the exam. In 2024 it’s now the new SY0-701, which was overhauled, and there are some differences in the exam.

I'm SEC+ Certified!
I am fairly new to the security field. I've used a computer and phones and what not but I am not adept with knowledge on the how to's or even concepts that are required within the security field. I bought this book because a few people who have their Security+ certification suggested it and I'm glad I did. I feel even with my extremely limited pre-hand knowledge on the subject I was able to easily grasp the concepts needed for this certification. What I love about this book is not only does it help you understand the concept but gives you tips for when you take the exam. It basically highlights what you should understand more. I also like that it has open ended questions at the end of each chapter so that you are not just memorizing words. When you do the practice questions you have to know what you are talking about to answer the question. This type of practice is extremely valuable and I really appreciate the author for writing it in this way. I'm only half way through and I'll update this review once I've taken the test to get my certificate. I highly suggest this book if you are similar to me with little to no knowledge in this subject and like to practice what you know instead of just memorizing terms.EDIT: PASSED and am now Security+ Certified!

Great information for IT newbies like me
I had zero knowledge of security concepts before I signed up for the exam at the end of March 2023. I purchased this book from Amazon on April 20th, 2023. I read most of the chapters twice and made flash cards of the chapter review questions. I also watched a lot of Professor Messer's videos.I successfully passed the Security + exam about an hour ago. :) This book was a HUGE part of my success, because concepts are explained well enough for a complete newbie like me. My husband has an IT degree and he is impressed with my knowledge.I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to not only pass the exam but also wants to acquire a knowledge base for a new profession.

PASSED THE SY0-601 EXAM THE 1ST TIME, thanks to IAN'S BOOK AND WEBSITE, SECURITYPLUS.TRAINING!!!
Ian Neil writes in a straightforward manner, and his descriptions are supported by clear-cut illustrations. Ian has taught over 15,000 students, including those in the military, so Ian knows how to efficiently communicate the CompTIA Security+ (SY0-601) exam concepts and will *not* waste your time! And unlike some other Sec+ exam instructors & teachers, Ian is *not* out to price-gouge his students by saying "buy these flashcards" or "purchase these practice exams"--although he does encourage his students to learn from "as many sources as makes sense" to prepare for the 5 exam domains. The 5 Domains of the CompTIA Security+ SY0-601 exam are:Domain 1.0: Attacks, Threats, and Vulnerabilities (24%)Domain 2.0: Architecture and Design (21%)Domain 3.0: Implementation (25%)Domain 4.0: Operations and Incident Response (16%)Domain 5.0: Governance, Risk, and Compliance (14%)As someone who purchased & used Ian's Certification Guide to pass on the first try, I *highly* recommend that you do the same!

Great book that helped me pass the exam first time.
I bought this book around July 2023 as a complete novice in the Cyber Security field. I just recently passed the exam at the first attempt after around three months studying. This book will give you all the knowledge that you need for the exam as it covers all the topics thoroughly. I particularly liked the way Ian explains everything clearly without being verbose with his explanations. I also used his material which is on his website where he has flash cards, a list of acronyms, port numbers, pbq’s and two exams. He also gives you a weekly study plan to follow which involves studying a chapter in his book plus watching corresponding video content of the professor messer security plus course on youtube. He also suggests doing some practise exams online which you can find through the link he shares. I followed his advice and his study plan and it worked for me. I’m sure it will for anybody else too. Good luck to anybody wishing to study and take the exam. I would recommend Ian’s book, website and advice to anybody wishing to obtain their security plus qualification.
